Time for a new release on this ever consistent trance label from Germany! This time it's a production by Swiss DJ Koris and his mate DJule, including two very interesting remixes by a few upfront trance producers... Click in to find out everything about this one!

I think Fenology doesn't need an introduction anymore. After releasing 8 quality releases during the past 2 years, they have definitely settled themselves in between all the big trance labels out there. With some very good tracks by the likes of Woody van Eyden (+ his Mindcrusher, van Eyden and Funaki aliases), Alex M.O.R.P.H. (+ his guises Scirocco and Arc In The Sky together with Henry Nix & Matthias Gierth) and remixes by renown producers like Fred Baker, Shane 54 and DJ Precision, they sure know how to deliver quality to the hungry trance fans out there.
Their ninth release, which is being reviewed here, is an uplifting tranceproduction by the duo Dinh Jean-Paul (Koris) and Julien Matthey (DJule), who have already brought out their track 'Belvedere' on DTF Recordings back in 2003. They have also remixed the track Ben Weston - 'A New Beginning', which was released on DTF as well.

A: M.O.R.P.H. vs. Scirocco Remix
No never-ending intro's, just straight on banging right at the beginning! A ferocious, typical Alex kick hits in in a very solid way, being accompanied by a loud, almost industrial sounding type of effect throughout the first portions of the track. Together with a tickling synth teasing you all the time during the build-up, the bassline rolls and blasts its way inside the deeper settings of the track by constantly injecting a new bit of bass in between the kicks. As the track progresses, a very full drive is being created: multiple synths playing different in key melodies serve as a small prelude to the main theme which is being introduced later on in the break. Overall, the build-up sounds right on agressive (which is good!). The pace is at a very high level, resulting in a peak-time, energetic experience. The breakdown consists of a nice set of vocals, in which a girl is chanting out some nice chords. All this is being brought to life even more by bringing in a very nice guitar sound at the background. But the fun is yet to come... gradually, a huge backing synth starts building itself up more and more, playing this emotionally loaded melody to maximize euphoria even more. One of the chord changes in this one has been worked out very well; you just wánt the track's melody to change, and so it does. The main climax will certainly result in a massive hands in the air experience. The infectious melody together with the furious percussion and bassline just work out in a very intense way, inducing this track to be a damn fine trancer!

B1: Ferrin & Low Remix
This relatively new producers duo is going to release their first single called 'Breeze' on Fenology soon, but have also delivered a remix for FEN009. Starting off with a somewhat hard kickdrum, this one immediately let's you know that it's definitely not going to be a softie. Eerie sound FX and a synth sample that reminds me of the sample used in the A-side mix serve as a starter, with a not too noticable bassline and some driving percussion following this up soon. More and more rhythms are being added, all continuously giving hints to what is to come. The cute vox are here again as well, this time brought in a little earlier. The first part of the breakdown can be compared with the M.O.R.P.H. vs. Scirocco remix, with the girl singing a bit and some cool soft strings doing their thing at the background. Just as you were thinking that the melody would be the same as well, we get suddenly treated by this immensely powerful synth detonating into the track like a huge bomb. Playing this very energetic melody, this will certainly cause mass devastation when played out live! Together with the already strong percussion, the main melodylines make this track a rather hard, but still greatly euphoric interpretation of the original. Two thumbs up!

B2: Original Mix
Allright, time for the mix with which everything started. Made quite a while ago, this one was about to be released last year, but ultimately got signed to Fenology because something happened to the previous label it seems. Tick-tack is what you hear during the first few seconds, because a woodblock sounding sample tries to catch your attention right from the start. When the base and accompanying effects start doing their rounds, you will notice that Koris & DJule's original is a lot less 'hard' than the other two mixes. A more relaxing vibe is hearable here, with small bits of melody and vocals being put in every now and then. The bassline is rather cool because it's not your standard kind of rolling thing. It pulsates inside the depths of the track by calling on a deep bass tone every few kickdrums, resulting in a very cool vibe, especially when combined with the inventive use of the bassdrums. After about 4 minutes of building up, everything comes to a silence and we get to hear the chanting vox once again. A tiny melody playing just 4 notes enters in, teasing you more and more. Bit by bit, the percussion starts to cumulate again, ultimately leading to a not too melodic, but certainly very cool climax. I think this mix will surely catch the public's attention when playing it at the beginning of a set: it lies right in the middle of the more trancy progressive and pure uplifting trance, making it the perfect bridge. Cool stuff!
Rating: 7,5/10

Conclusion:
This vinyl includes three very good mixes. The A-side mix stands out by bringing a very cool emotionally loaded melody, while Ferrin & Low made a superbly energetic interpretation by using this right on banging synthline. Koris & DJule's original is more chilled, but definitely worth listening because of the different vibe. Fenology once again proves that they are situated at the top!
