A new online novel about dance music and its magical affects on people all over the world has appeared on the net. It tells a story that Faithless started with their single “God Is a DJ”. Based on many different myths including Hindu gods and Christian prophets it is a very interesting read. At only 90 pages some of which are in an almost comic book form it’s very easy to digest within a couple of hours. Read more….
XVXONE (pronounced ex-vee-ex one) is an online novel that the anonymous author describes as follows in the introduction on the home page www.xvxone.com
“I wrote this after years of inspiration provided by dance music in many places throughout the UK. The sprit that sometimes engulfs rooms got me thinking there was more to it that everyone being off their heads. Whether in Scotland or Devon there were often feelings of telepathy at the best nights. Sometimes it is as if we can change the world, it gets that good. Behind it all there was always a common presence, an “it”, a “spirit”, a “God” even. This is my story about that “it”, that “spirit” that “God”.
The above intro does sum up well the main subject matter in the book and the whole style it is written in reflects a kind of madness associated with feelings of connection we have all felt at least one time when we’ve been bathed in lasers and dancing to sounds that seem to touch the soul.
The hero of the story is Judas Iscariot who has been reborn at the end of the 20th century as an ordinary Joe. Not really sure if his instincts on his past are true he struggles to share the crazy feelings he has inside with the outside world. He’s also convinced that the history of the world that is presented to us all is a misrepresentation of the facts and being as though he was there he talks with anger at the changes that have been made to that recorded history.
The middle section of the book is like a diary extract of the hero when he was a child and I like the way he compares the thoughts and dreams of a child to the more wide open beliefs and concerns we get as we change from child to adult. The concerns of not having finished homework get compared to wondering how the universe itself works.
The book is a good bit of fun that neatly ties in many of the more wonderful experiences that dance music can bring….. recommended.
