Andy Jay Powell and Mike Nero return as Savon with One Million Strings, for the 12th Active Sense Recordings release. Hard Trance with an uplifting angle as the norm for Active Sense, this is certainly no different.
Savon – One Million Strings (Active Sense Recordings)
Savon is the duo of Andy Jay Powell and Mike Nero, who both run Active Sense Recordings, which they run out of Germany. They have been working together since 2002 and the partnership has released numerous records. This is the 5th release for Savon, and the 12th release for Active Sense overall and their concept was to combine the uplifting trance sound with hard trance, while still retaining that underground ethos and most agree that they have succeeded in doing just that.
Savon – One Million Strings (ASR-012)
Side A – Andy Jay Powell Mix Side B – Mike Nero Mix
A1.Andy Jay Powell Mix
This starts with a harder edge trance but what strikes you first is the melody, which is crafted very well and then the bassline joins in, watch out people, this could cause some harm. The tune seems a bit too slow for my liking but nothing with pitching it up to +2 or +3. The strings, hence the track title are the main focus here, which quietly take you on a journey. The track is really calmer than what I’ve come to expect from Andy Jay Powell and Mike Nero. It is certainly a calmer trancer but people are going to love the breakdown for this mix, which is just immense. Certainly a nice starter
B1. Mike Nero Mix
I imagine when Mike Nero was thinking for what style of mix to do, he thought to his label’s direction and thought why not make a hard trance with that huge uplifting element, well he did. This starts incredibly banging, which is how music should be, coupled with a hard hard trance bassline, I’m digging it immediately. A grinding piano line that still keeps that uplifting influence comes in. So you cross the Hard Trance bassline with the uplifting riffs. The piano line and the riffs are so hooky and they have me hooked and I like it, Nero takes this mix into a more fun hard trance/uplifting cross fun mode. The fun factor is huge and the harmony that everything gains around the midway point is just beautiful. It is clearly the best of the 2 mixes and one to watch out for.
Conclusion:
Andy Jay Powell’s mix is more lush and precise, while Mike Nero brings you a dancefloor favorite that is sure to get DJ play, with that fun uplifting melody coupled with that hard as nails bassline. You’ve been warned!, watch out for it!
