Behold a true feast of talent combined on this new record brought to us by Spinnin' Records on their WL imprint...!
The names behind the Manny Romero project are Dimitri Siliakus (aka E-Craig) and Jelle van Buren. Top this little combo off with a remix from none other than the extremely talented Sander van Doorn and you have quality on a plate even before you've put the needle to it. Well lets do just that...
:: Manny Romero - Compadre :: WL :: WL029
A: Compadre (S.v.D. Remix) As soon as this track kicks in after the short percussive intro, you just know you're deep into SvD territory. The sound of the deep, thick bass and the distinct percussive presence is simply unmistakable. The track takes you on a progressive journey enriched with compulsive bass, an ever evolving set of percussion and deep and twisted sfx. The moodiest part of the track is the long and building breakdown in the middle. You're teased and are made to wait for the moment when the track drops back in but when it does its definitely worth the wait as it drives and grooves its way home, moving the dancefloor as it does so. Top marks again to Sander van Doorn for this high quality remix!
AA: Compadre (Original) The original has quite a different flavour to it compared with the S.V.D. Remix, although it does share the strong and driving properties already demonstrated so well on the A-side of the vinyl. What you have here (after the fairly long and muted percussive intro) is a strong sound driven by a deep and dry sounding bass and very tight, coarse percussion. The other element that stands out and helps to carry the track is an instrument with quite an abrupt sound that delivers a simple rhythm throughout the duration of the track. In fact it sounds a lot like a heavily modified brass instrument. There is a strong carnival type feeling, sound and essence to this piece so it conveys some quite celebratory emotions. Somewhere between tech-trance and techno, this one will go down really well on certain dancefloors.
Conclusion:
'Compadre' is a solid, techy track and the remix put in by SvD is another outstanding example of his abilities. Both sides of the vinyl are capable of entertaining the people on a dancefloor but the A-side is definitely the star of the show here.
