Leon Bolier is back on RR with the follow up to his debut single under his Precursor alias...
:: Precursor - Solar 1 :: RR :: RR027
A: Solar 1 (Main Mix) This mix of 'Solar 1' is a deep, dark and moody affair. Its most immediate element is the super-deep bassline which thunders along continuously in the background. Combined with off beat snares and intense industrial sounds and synths, you get quite a picotto-esque vibe with a techy hint of Marco V in there too. There is a simple 'melodic' element to this track too. A melody/hook is built and played during a long break in the middle of the track. The instrument is quite strong and cutting and its backed by a medley of kicks and snares. This track carries with it a heavy sense of strength and rawness with its thick bass and coarse industrial sounds. This one would fit in both tech-trance and full on techno sets.
AA: Solar 1 (Base Mix) The Base Mix of 'Solar 1' also has a strong bassline, but this time it has a more lively feel and drives the track rhythmically instead of simply thundering in the background. Most of the elements that are introduced share the driving quality - the percussion, the melody played by spacey synths all the quirky sfx are all pushing forward. There is a large break in the middle of this mix too. Here, its a long and powerful build up headed up by a loud, and raw sounding synth. We're even treated to a small and funky breakbeat section before the track kicks back in, lead by the raw, droning synth. Its a very strong sound and almost drowns some parts of the track out. Another very techy track but as well as being a very driving piece it has some nice melodic elements to it as a nice contrast.
Conclusion:
Another fine effort from Precursor with two heavily techy yet quite different to most things I've heard tracks. A must for tech trance fans and also one for to check out for those techno lovers/djs out there too!
