The 8th release from the upstart American label that has Moshic and many other deejays digging their tunes. Find out if the deejays know something that we don't
Brahma & Sean Gruv feat. Jillian Kiggins – We Awoke (Sentient Audio Collective)
“We Awoke” sees the eight release from American based label Sentient Audio Collective. You probably have not heard much about the label but it’s a collective of Deejays, Artists, Producers and like-minded music people who really want to put their creative energies together and make music for people to enjoy. Sentient Audio Collective was started by Brahma aka Michael Lanning and Chris Conner, for this they bring in their buddy Sean Gruv to help out. Most of the artists on Sentient are American and who have joined together to make music and that’s their goal. This is being released as a double pack, part 1 will be posted and part 2 will be on another review. Remember this is a digital only release.
Brahma & Sean Gruv feat. Jillian Kiggins – We Awoke (Part 1) (Sentient Audio Collective
1.Original Mix 2.Michael Lannings’s Alternate Mix
Original Mix
This starts a bit more up-tempo then I originally thought because Brahma’s stuff is usually just solid slow progressive. This track uses a solid drumline with a haunting vocal from Jillian Kiggins. Its nice to hear a well done vocal for a change, with the amount of bad vocals around the place these days, its refreshing. The track does not try to get too fancy and its dark, not as dark as I hoped for. Brahma and Sean Gruv seem to build everything around the vocal, not the other way around like most artists are doing. This gives the vocal more power and the vocal talents of whoever is doing it, is utilized to their full potential. The track is perfect for warm-up or if you play your peaktime sets this slow, then this is perfect for you. Certainly a solid side A
Michael Lannings’s Alternate Mix
Since he runs the label, of course he was first choice for doing the mixes, which is never a bad thing because you can’t get turned down. Lanning here uses the same beginning as the original mix but he makes this even darker and uses some in and out sound effects that just give this track, a unique direction. I like how he’s not trying to fix what is not broken and I also like how he lets the track just take over. The vocal is still here, in all its glory. This is a good flipside to part 1 and certainly proves that Lanning is no slouch.
Conclusion:
A solid release with a haunting vocal that will get a lot of notice from a lot of people and this is only the start of Jillian Kiggins’ vocal career. I suspect that from this track, she will get more interest from producers. So part 1 is certainly worth the money, if you dig progressive tunes.
