The 3 time DMC champ returns with his latest mix album, which features Miami. Check this one out
DJ Craze – Miami Heat (System Recordings)
The Superstar DJ Craze seems to get missed by some in the music media and most music buyers seem to not know his name. To sum up about a decade of music, DJ Craze is one of the few three time DMC Technics Champions in history. Its one of the toughest events to win more than once because everyone is after you, just ask the Scratch Perverts. Anyway, DJ Craze has branched out in DJ mix albums and this is his latest called Miami Heat. He obviously wanted to big up his hometown and he has done a few compilations already for System Recordings, so why not keep the same record label. He will tour with this album and if you have never heard this man mix before, you just have to check it out. So Miami Heat is up for review

DJ Craze’s album may surprise a few people at first because so many people seem to equate him with Hip Hop music but he’s branched out into Drum’N’Bass for years now and what you notice from the very start, is that he takes his music seriously.
The intro really kicks this into gear followed by track after track of solid drum n bass. The big names are all here with Zinc, Photek, Hive, Gridlok and my personal fave, D-Kay. The CD tends to move with ease from track to track and the mixing is top notch here.
His selection includes more vocals than I wanted and it is certainly less bass heavy than I thought it would be but track five seems to be the early standout track in my mind. The quartet of Hive, Gridlok, Keaton and Echo, with their always-nasty dnb tunes and it was a good decision to pick them. Craze then moves a few more songs and then we reach the next standout track, which is number, eight with Total Science. I expected the mix to take a darker tone, say like Andy C but it never does but the mix does keep its grooviness.
Craze’s own track at number nine is just fantastic and it certainly adds to this mix, which by now, has you addicted to it. A funkiness now filters into the mix and pushes it till the end. Track fourteen has Zinc’s often-underrated track called Creeper coming in. I love it for two reasons, the fact that its not used in the beginning and the fact that Zinc just knows how to make great tracks that everyone can love. So after a few more solid tracks, we reach Q Project’s Greatest Thing, which adds some power to this mix. It’s not like this mix was lacking any but adding more of a good thing, always rates highly in my book.
The only disappointment for me for this CD was the inclusion of D Kay’s Casali. I’ve always liked D Kay’s tunes, so bass heavy but somehow this lacked that element that I’ve always enjoyed with his productions. The album then kicks it into 5th gear and then ends on the always-enjoyable Duppy Man from Chase and Status.
Conclusion:
Solid mix album, solid mixing, solid tracks, Craze shows them UK dnb heads; this is how the Americans do it. It’s certainly worth picking up
