After his impressive remix of the latest DJ Hyper track, the new golden boy of breaks returns for his first 4:20 solo release.
Daniel Taylor – M.O.R.D (4:20 Recordings)
Daniel Taylor is the new kid in the breakbeat world and after his remix on the most recent DJ Hyper release called “Come With Me” (which was released in late April) on Timo Maas’ own 4:20 imprint. So Timo decided to bring him back and allow him to release his first 4:20 record, along with Timo’s close friend and fave remixer Locodice. Daniel Taylor has been compared to by some in the music press to the next coming of Hyper, that might be unfair and might put too much weight on the guy’s shoulders. He is joined by the always unpredictable man known as Locodice, who first took the world by storm with his amazing and still legendary track called “Phatt Dope Shit”.
a1)Dub Edit b1)Locodice Remix
Dub Edit
The dub edit makes use of some weird noises and just come in and out. The bassline that the track seems to build on, is just plain filthy, which is how I like my music. Taylor pushes some other noises, which are hard to describe from the background, which makes this sound decent. Its not quite the Hyper remix genius but this works but I’m not sure how well it would work in a club. The breakdown is weird because after the break, you hear a whole bunch of riffs and the song changes into a more chord based affair. I like the second phase of the track because the first part might make you completely lose interest
Locodice Remix
Locodice’s Remix seems to use more echoed beats and he seems to use some vocal cutups but was there originally a vocal for this? Or did the they just can the vocal in some meeting and go with the dub edit for the first side?. I guess we may never know exactly what Daniel Taylor originally intended. Anyway Locodice goes in a slower direction, letting the sound effects and the vocal cutups push his remix. Its not bad but not great but it begs the question, what the hell happened to the dirty as feck Locodice, who used to make incredibly dirty and filthy tracks and remixes?
Conclusion:
Solid track for Taylor but it may not be as impressive as most people want music to be these days but it gets the job done. Locodice has lost his edge of filth and you may want to find his earlier productions like “Phatt Dope Shit”. It will probably be hammered to death in recent months by some progressive deejays.
