 A: Pleasure Island (Vocal Mix)
The main crux of this track is big beats with really strong percussive flavours. It seems as though Katana is sticking to his more tribal kind of sounds as we've heard from 'One Solid Wave' and 'Fancy Fair 05'. The track takes its time to build itself up, using lots of little percussive breaks and sections where the focus is changed to a female vocal line, announcing the 'Pleasure Island' theme of things. Its not until about half way through that things start to significantly develop. A deep synthline playing jittery notes wells up from the background and although the track still remains to be rather simple, this new addition does extremely well at filling the track out and adding depth and interest. Plus, its a very nicely made synth and for some reason its sound appeals to me a lot. The synth increases in strength and becomes a bit coarser for an extra bit of tranciness when the track hits its final main section. After this it fades out into a sea of percussion and heads towards the end of the track.

 AA: Pleasure Island (Dub Mix)
The Dub Mix of 'Pleasure Island' loses a lot of the more tribal sounds and instead utilises a strange, gritty bass sound which can be heard constantly playing in the background. The other main difference about this mix is that it begins to properly develop around a quarter of the way through. This is again achieved by the introduction of the nice sounding jittery synthline. More emphasis is placed on building this synth up and also on enhancing the percussion ready for a big build up into a finalé of main section action. This mix has the same kind of track structure as Katana's remake of 'Fancy Fair' - long and slow developments leading up to a huge breakdown and build up for the main sections of the track. And of course with this being a dub mix, theres no trace of vocals at all.

Conclusion:It seems as though Randy Katana's latest production is impressing all the right people and I have to say it is a strong track. The Vocal Mix may take a bit too long to kick off for some people, so the Dub Mix addresses that small issue. In general, simplicity is the key here and this track definitely feels as though it is more than capable of fuelling hungry dancefloors.
