TRR's seventh release is upon us with Dreas vs. Enrapture with Genix on remix duties.
Dreas vs. Enrapture – Genesis (Trance Revolution Recordings)
TRR has finally come out of hiding and they are ready with release number seven, which is quite an achievement, since most labels don’t make it that far. They have picked a wide of variety of things to push and the public seems to like it.
TRR was an idea between Andy Bagguley and DJ Genix aka Damien Houchen, who are both getting more and more gigs and production opportunities. They brought in Andreas Lindell aka Dreas, who has received some major buzz about his recent work. They have brought in also little known Enrapture to help out and together they came up with Genesis. On the flip side of the record, Genix brings his remix out, which he seems to be appearing in more and more productions of late.
Dreas vs. Enrapture – Genesis (TR007)
a) Original Mix b) Genix Remix
Original Mix
The original mix begins in second gear, nothing fancy or great here. The underlying synths are pitched near the background and then then move to the front. I like the melody but something about this, just seems rather ordinary. I do like the synths here but it just seems so ordinary with today’s trance. It does not set itself apart from anything else coming out today. The strumming of what sounds like a guitar tries to calm the track down about three minutes in and then the breakdown hits with more trancey breakbeat at times. It then comes out of the breakdown and it seems to continue its ordinary run, its not fantastic but its not that bad either. Just ordinary does not cut it anymore in music.
Genix Remix
Poor Damien aka Genix can’t save this release from itself. I don’t know why this is a remix because it does not really change much of the original. He allows the melody in at parts, not completely like the original but the big difference is the breakdown. It goes all silent, reminding you of the brilliant King Unique remix of Ride, where the silence is used to the producer’s advantage. I find that the track is not strong enough to begin with for anyone to save it. Its just so ordinary, nothing fancy, nothing earth shattering and TRR are capable of better and they know it
Conclusion:
The song is not bad but it is not great, it is just plain ordinary and that does not cut it anymore in music today with all the labels and all the producers out there. Better luck next time for TRR.
