A new release on this Swiss trance label arises, being a track by a guise that we've seen earlier on the label... Featuring two mixes, let's find out if this package can do any damage!
Photon Decay consists of two producers: Stephan Büttner and Dennis Schimonik. The previous single that was released under this guise was called 'Red Shift', also featuring a Climax 69 Remix.
Armin van Buuren has already been caning this one in his radioshow, and a wagonload of other biggies seem to have also found out that this is something a bit special... How come?
A-side: Climax 69 Remix Hitting the exact right spot by commencing with a phat use of percussion and a driving bassline, you'll notice that this is going to be one big & energetic experience. A very rapid drive is being brought forward, fueled by thick arrays of bass, lots of gimmicks and some addictive synthwork. Something quite remarkable is the fact that a huge part of the main melody is already being introduced during the building stage, but this has been worked out in such a way that everything still sounds 'new' during the break. Slowly bringing a very nice strings melody during the calmer part of the tune, some breakbeats start to spice up the spectrum just until the main riff starts doing its thing.. and it does it in a magnificent way! This has everything you want: a bit of emotion, an amazing amount of energy and a perfect tension-building embodiment. Backed by the rather harsh percs and b-line, this results in a totally adorable uplifting trancer. Class! Rating: 8,5/10
B-side: Original Mix This mix of 'Aura' does this a lil' different by using a just a tad less energetic build. A calm, relaxing synth is being accentuated most of the time, backed by a simple yet nice set of basses and some cool backing instruments. Gradually becoming a fuller experience, you will definitely start to notice that the main goal here is to bring a smooth, feelgood trancer. Everything is being brought forward in a very 'unoffensive' way, inducing a summerish atmosphere to be created. During the break we hear the same chords as in the remix, but everything changes a little during the climax. Some of the notes have been left out here, making the full thing sound just a little odd to me (but that might just be because I'm used to the remix-melody now). Anyways, this can't measure with Climax 69's remix, but it's still a nice piece of music. Rating: 7,5/10
Conclusion:
As you might have noticed, I really like the Climax 69 Remix. It's just plain amazing. The well thought out percussion and bassline together with that fantastic melody just make it a true highlight! The original is nice as well, but a lot less 'peaktime' than side A. All in all a very good release on Paradox! Next up on the label is Florian Schmidle's 'Feelings', which also features a Climax 69 Remix. Will be reviewed here as well when the time is ready.
