The second single of Marco’s new album ‘200V’ has reached us, being the follow-up to the massive ‘More Than A Life Away’. This one really shows that our Dutch bald headed maestro still knows how to bring an amazing amount of variation. Why? Head in.
Somewhere near the end of September we can expect Marco V’s second artist album, following up on Con:Fusion which was released in 2002. Again, we can expect a well varied CD fusing different styles in dance music together flawlessly. Marco has been playing a bunch of the new tracks in his DJ sets lately, and they’re all worth their own little hype. Make sure to read the full review of ‘200V’ here on i:Vibes as soon as it hits the shops. ‘More Than A Life Away’ was a rather hard track with a big bassline and some mean, but very catchy vocals. ‘Second Bite’ is something totally different…
A: Album Extended Let’s start off by saying that although this has a not too low BPM, it still brings about a very housy feel during the build. A peacefully playing, deep bassline brings forth a rather catchy rhythm, fueled by apprehensive FX and some typical percussion. It’s noticeable that this isn’t your average dancefloor corker; it’s more like a chilled out trance-tech-house hybrid, with one of the cool things in it being the very infectious male vocals. They do tend to get just a little annoying at times, but that’s being washed away by the cool ‘eighties’ vibe that is being created. Especially the chorus definitely knows how to work on your senses! Together with a simple yet well working set of melodies and some slighly emotional strings, it brings about a bunch of cool climaxes throughout the whole tune. The vocals could easily have been implemented in a tune in a totally different style in music, and that’s what makes this track stand out: it shows a lot of versatility, merging different scenes together resulting in a tight production once again. Rating: 7,5/10
B1: Wally Lopez La Factoria Vocal Remix Time for an even housier remix! Mister Lopez managed to create a fine piece of inventive house, combining a stripped down version of the original bassline and a slightly edited version of the vocals with a definite ‘move-that-body’ percussion filled with bongo’s and original gimmicks. A lot of the original’s structure has been kept intact, including the strings and the amount of techyness that is being brought forward. Slowly coming to a breakdown, a dark, rather thin synthie ignites a few notes, then for the track to burst loose again in its entirety using the vocal chorus and well-placed percussion. Not a groundbreaking remix, but it does fit in perfectly with the style of the original, still retaining an own distinctive sound. And that’s what remixes are for, aren’t they? Rating: 7/10
B2: Wally Lopez La Factoria Dub Remix The word ‘Dub’ usually means none or less vocals than its brother (or sister, whatever way you want it) remix, and for the rest being the exact same track. But that’s not quite what’s happening here. A lot of the percs are the same, but a somewhat different bassline has been implemented: it sounds more like it’s ‘rolling’ onwards, making friends with some of the elements we heard in Wally’s Vocal Remix. Small portions of the vocals are hearable throughout some of the tune’s parts, but the big difference with the Vocal Mix is the fact that this is a lot less melodic and just a little more driving. A very vague but utterly cool version of one of the original’s melodies induces a rather sturdy atmosphere to be created, making this not your usual Dub Version. Wicked! Rating: 7,5/10
Conclusion:
Do a Google search on the word ‘versatility’, you’ll most probably end up on some page relating to Marco. With this track, he shows that he is able to combine his beloved V-sound with a wide variety of styles, including house. The vocals are quite nice, the original’s bassline is phat and the drive is cool. Wally Lopez’ remixes should not be forgotten either because of their wicked feel and loads of neat gimmicks. A second disc of ‘Second Bite’ will be released soon as well, including a remix by D-Formation!
