Things are going from strength to strength for UK based Monster Tunes and its small army of sub-labels. One of the latest tracks to come from the label is 'Celestial', produced by the father of Monster Tunes, Simon Brisk...

Monster Tunes is comprised of itself as the main label, and sub-labels Monster Classics, Monster Force, Monster Hard and Monster Pure. Each of which simply describes the kind of music you can expect to hear. 'Celestial' resides on Monster Tunes, which is home to the energetic and uplifting sides of trance music. Now you have an idea of what to expect, on to the review...

A: Celestial (JOC Pres. Mannix Mix)

The first of the two remixes is by Mannix, aka trancemaster John O'Callaghan who has been coming up with some really good stuff as of late. His Mannix alias has already appeared on the A State Of Trance Label, so appearing on Monster Tunes is adding to his list of accolades. The tune itself starts strongly - no waiting on a dead beat and percussion for 3 minutes waiting for the inevitable build. It starts of in quite a meaty fashion with thick bass and subtle synths lining the background. You can also pick up on various sfx and effects which remind me very much of Outback's style. The lead up to, and including, the breakdown sees the introduction of the main melody. It begins as more of a repeating hook but evolves into something fuller and more melodic. The breakdown itself is calm, gentle, and quite lengthy. It doesn't get boring though, the immense synths and beautiful melody take care of that. Also a really nice touch is the well balanced inclusion of some soaring female choir sounding synths which add awesome feeling and great harmony. It sends shivers down my spine. Brilliant.

B: Celestial (TC&P Tech Mix)
The TC&P Tech Mix is exactly that - a really techy styled remix. Its quite a different take on the original tune, utilising really meaty beats, thick rolling bass and ongoing coarse sfx grinding away in the background. The track has a true driving feeling to it right from the start. There are a few small breakdowns where the trancey, melodic element gets a few brief moments to shine through but before you know it you're back to pounding away with the main jist of things. This mix does, however, employ the wonderful melody and synth plucked straight out of the Original. It creates a very good contrast and isn't overdone at all. A strong track for those darker and tougher sets and dancefloors.

Conclusion:
An excellent pair of remixes here. JOC's Mannix mix is wonderfully trancey - it flows so well and just sounds great. The TC&P Tech Mix is a great bit of variation, but it still keeps to its roots and allows a little bit of the trance goodness to shine through the dark, tough beats of tech trance.
