Ralph Novell steps up to offer the latest track for release on Skywarp's fledgling Hard Trance and Hi-NRG sub-label, Skywarp Platinum...
:: Ralph Novell - Hurricane :: Skywarp Platinum :: SKYP003
1) Hurricane (Original Club Mix) Hurricane certainly has pace, and as soon as your hear the off-beat bass pushing you on and on and the quality sounding trance synth warming itself up into a melody you can tell you're in for an energetic journey. 'Hurricane' has a very strong melodic element. The melody itself is fairly long and plays really well, switching back and forth between something strong and powerful and something thats slightly more uplifting. This is one of Ralph's strengths - powerful melodic elements. Another of his which is evident here is his use of carefully crafted and agonisingly climactic breakdowns and buildups. He always keeps you hanging on an edge and then lets rip with the tunes full-on power. A quality hard trancer oozing Novell's style.
2) Hurricane (Cygnific Remix) Aerodrome & Solid Haze make up the Cygnific project and they've teamed up again to remix 'Hurricane'. Its not as action packed as the original, instead it takes on an easier approach, easing you into the track. The use of the snare drum reminds me of some of Cygnific's techier work in this predominantly trancey piece. The main theme behind this one is slow and steady stabs of synth which break out into a simplified melody in the breakdowns. Its far less driving and energetic than the original - it progresses steadily instead of focussing on full hard trance power.
Conclusion:
Another top piece of hard trance that we've got used to hearing from Ralph Novell. His original is excellently strong and energetic and its power overshadows Cygnific's more toned down, proggy remix.
