TCR's run of pushing new artists continues with the amazing duo called Diverted, Rennie Pilgrem and Krafty Kuts love them. See why
Diverted – Tholid (TCR)
We are in mid August, the summer really flies by and I just got another TCR release for review. TCR is the Rennie Pilgrem run madcap label that always pushes massive choons, is set for another release. Hot on the heels of the top flight JDS album “Adventures of The Purple Funky Monkey”, if you haven’t heard it, go buy it, top breaks. Anyway, this time around sees the release from Diverted (Steve Baxter and Lee Richardson), who released their first record on Sokolov Sounds in 2004, with a release called Worm/Ted. They get their feet wet now with their first TCR release and they picked the label owner who released their first record aka Vlad Breakneck to remix their track. So after massive airplay and massive club play by many in the breaks world including Rennie, Blim, Krafty Kuts among many many others, it finally sees a release.
Diverted (Renn3097) A1)Tholid B1)Vlad Remix
A1 - Original
This starts funky with this sound effect that immediately draws me in, its almost too much fun at the start but I don’t mind that. It has that funky black soul “Uh” part vocal that I seem to really dig and it has this riotous grubby fuckoff bassline coupled with this massive grinding riff. I love the fun of this, it’s going to go off big time in a lot of places and it really works well. I don’t know who the hell Diverted actually is besides their names but I like their funky in your face type Plump DJs style. This track obviously gets you moving, its more fun than the boring progressive breaks that keeps polluting our scene. No wonder that Darren Pearce said this was his biggest tune and I agree with him, it’s completely off the charts. The breakdown goes a big slower but still keeps that grinding part and with some scratches, it pushes it till the end. Excellent start for Diverted.
B1 - Vlad Remix
Vlad is one third of Breakneck and it shows how music is becoming increasingly more global. Vlad seems to take another view on his remix; he takes out the grinding bassline and adds an injection of more fun into this. The throbbing bassline seems chaotic at times and it adds more elements of fun with some indescribable noise that I want to hear more of. It’s not as in your face at times but it is still lots of fun and very very nice.
Conclusion:
How should I put it? TCR does it again, yes its fantastic and no they have not paid me to say nice things about it. They are clearly a force in the breakbeat world and watch out for Diverted, they will be causing more mayhem in the future, I suspect.
