After a lot of anticipation, the date has finally come round for Sander van Doorn's latest release. Here Sander provides yet another piece of his original and inspiring sound on the now solidly established Oxygen Recordings...
Oxygen Recordings has been up and running for well over a year now. The Spinnin' Records' sub-label has gone from strength to strength, mainly due to it constantly showcasing the sheer talent of Sander van Doorn. With only a few releases from other artists, Oxygen is almost like Sander's second home. From this base, Sander has been exploring every corner of the term 'techy'. Each record is there, in that genre, but is still something new with its own unique sound to make you listen each and every time a new production raises its head. It is the same for todays masterpiece: Sander van Doorn - A.K.A....
:: Sander van Doorn - A.K.A. :: Oxygen Recordings :: OX007
A: A.K.A. (A.K.A. Sandler Mix) This production isn't only exploring the tech genre, it is also exploring Sander's guises. In this first mix, he is A.K.A. Sandler. Things kick of with an understated start, slowly expanding from really deep, rumbling bass and a very pronounced percussive element. A synth come effect is masterfully blended in and before you know it, bizarre and twisted sounds are coming at you rhythmically from the depths of the track. These very distinctive notes could be likened to those heard in 'Wow' by Dimitrie Siliakus. As in most of Sander's tracks, the bass is almost melodic - so deep and perfectly balanced it effortlessly carries the track and adds a whole new dimension to the overall sound. The breakdown in this mix is quite long and sfx filled with sounds reminiscent of things as diverse as 'Dooms Night' and 'Joyenergizer'. It kicks back in to life in true Sander style - a complete and full sound of beats, bass and percussion, plus a whole load of wild noises and sfx. Its chunky, its rhythmic, its very, very good.
AA: A.K.A. (A.K.A. Sam Mix) On the flip, Sander is A.K.A Sam to provide a second mix. Things are more typically 'Sander van Doorn' here, but don't let that fool you! The mood this mix brings on quickly is classy to say the least. Again things are based around perfect beats and a vast quantity of percussion. From here, the bass takes the main lead - rolling constantly in the background, wonderfully deep and rich. It also changes very regularly adding a fantastic twist to the track as you're not quite sure which way the bass is going to go. Further on, we hear eerie synths swirling over the top amidst more sfx. There is also a fairly long breakdown in this mix too, and its pretty damn fab. Its a build of those eerie synths (which are really, really nice), a torrent of electronic sfx and bassy, grainy synths. Once it jumps back into to full swing the track just goes off. The bass takes the lead, making everything sound spot on. There are twisted, electronic sfx coming at you from just about every thinkable angle whilst the beats just pound on without relent. This is an awesome track.
Conclusion:
Sander van Doorn has done it again, he's provided yet another record with quality laden heavily on both sides. The A.K.A. Sandler Mix is good and is another example of Sander's talent but he really showcases himself yet again with the sheer superbness of the A.K.A. Sam Mix on the B-side. Utter brilliance!
