One of Germany's hottest trance producers at the moment brings us his new single this month, following up on loads of recent remixes and other projects he's busy with. With a psy-trancy remix on the flip, let's find out what we're dealing with here!
Seems like Alex just can't sit still this year! His remixes for Armin van Buuren, Lennox, Mindcrusher and Kenny Hayes are all still causing havoc all over the world, and his Arc In The Sky project with Matthias Gierth and Henry Nix has just released a very cool new single called 'Kissed'. Following up on 'Flaming Clouds' and 'Unification', this new single by our German main man promises to be yet another piece of highly energetic trance... Let's check it out.
A-side: New Club Mix If you have heard some of Alex's recent productions, you'll immediately notice that the build of this track definitely retains a lot of the usual agility and drive again. A pounding kick and a deep, throbbing bassline take care of a somewhat harder vibe than we're used to from mister M.O.R.P.H., accentuated by them distinct percussional elements and some uplifting synthwork. All the melodies have been worked out in a nice way again, perfectly fitting with eachother to ensure maximum pleasure. One of them is a very calm, beepy synth playing throughout half of the build. The cool thing is that it eventually returns in the breakdown, accompanied by some neat vocal chants and a few spicy chords. The overall vibe in the break is still very relaxing until now, but that changes drastically when the main riff starts igniting itself: pumping out an unbelievable amount of energy, it has the ability to blow away just about anything. The full climax is a hardish experience, fueled by the elevating melody and big sets of basses. Though this is totally Alex's usual style, it still seems like his sound has evolved a bit once again: the production sounds very crisp and clean, resulting in a slamming trancer!
B-side: Human Blue Remix On remix duties is this Swedish psy-trance formation. To be honest, I haven't really heard of the alias before, but I'm definitely going to listen to more of their stuff! They turned 'New Harvest' into a dark and driving beast of a track, being brought forward using a really phat bassline, mean vocal chants and a very original use of both FX and percussion. It doesn't build in your usual way either, mainly because of its cool, yet odd structure. Though most of the elements have changed drastically, you can still hear that this is a remix of side A because of some of the effects that have been implemented. Slowly becoming a fuller experience on its way to the break, multiple familiar melodies are gradually being introduced. One very neat thing is the huge drumroll that has been placed right in front of the breakdown: it makes you think some gigantic climax is going to follow, but instead everything collapses and makes place for an altered version of one of the main riffs from the New Club Mix. Constantly banging forward using them big basses, this is certainly something very inventive!
Conclusion:
Again, Fenology doesn't disappoint. The New Club mix is a fierce piece of uplifting trance, using an amount of energy that could fuel a whole district. The Human Blue remix is something different, but wicked nonetheless because of the unique structure and cool tricks that have been implemented. A neat vinyl!
