Timo Maas' label comes out with a truly dark and devastating tune from James Mowbray and Dino Ramirez. Check it out
James Mowbray and D.Ramirez – The Day Hip Hop Died (4:20) Timo Maas has been a busy man of late and his label keeps coming out with more and more output. His latest was the Morning Sessions:Circoloco Vol.2, which has done very well, with the people who dig that electro/minimal sound. Mr.Maas decided that he would do something different and release a truly dark, dirty and filthy record and that is definitely the case with “The Day Hip Hop Died”. James Mowbray is best known for being a writer for Mixmag and now he is branching out as an artist and he’s joined up with the always filthy and always dirty Dino Ramirez, who goes by D.Ramirez.
James Mowbray and D.Ramirez – The Day Hip Hop Died (4:20)
A1 – Vocal Mix B1 – Dub Mix
A1 – Vocal
This starts slowly with a nice bassline but about thirty seconds in, it immediately takes you into the dark and twisted world that is Mowbray and Ramirez. The vocal is the best part and it immediately shows up and he repeats “No More Pop and RnB Rappers, whack tunes where fuck all happens, Phony MCs and Detroit Town Rhymes, where were you the day that hip hop died”. At the beginning, it is just the vocal and the bassline and then the dirty electro bassline kicks in and the track pushes this funny vocal over a mean ass bassline with some nasty riffs. I love how the duo just does not care, if anyone gets offended and they love to have a good time. This is just a mean track that has a big fan in me, it just pushes what I like about dark, dirty, nasty and filthy tunes.
B1 – Dub
I’m not such a big fan of this side, it is essentially the same track with the vocal taken out but the vocal is the best part about the track. The dub will serve people that want to use even meaner acapellas layered over this electro meanness
Conclusion:
This just hits the spot, it is dark, dirty, filthy and just plain nasty but most of all fun and that is what you expect from Timo Maas’ label and that is what you got
