Part two of mr. V's second single from his forthcoming album is here, including mixes by the Spanish D-Formation project and a tougher interpretation by Alex TrackOne. Do they add anything to part 1? Head in!
Follow this link if you want to read the review for the first disc. While part one had the wicked original and two energetic housy mixes by Wally Lopez on it, this time we get treated with two totally different mixes. Time to check them out!
A-side: D-Formation's Third Bite Remix Remix It's immediately noticeable that this is going to be a warm and coasy, yet somewhat dark remix right from the first few beats. Relaxing percussive layers are being built up gently, gaining more strength from a set of soothing strings chords at the background. During the build, tiny vocal snippets are being thrown in and out of the track followed up by a stabbing & slow bassline, darkish synthwork and some neat FX. The overall vibe is exactly how I thought it would be: the track builds in a rather inventive, not too rapid way, being energized by the edited vocal samples, the continuously bubbling basslines and the funky percussion. Not much from the original has been kept intact (except for the vox of course), but that's not a bad thing at all. This is one of them tracks that will fit in perfectly during the beginning of a relaxing trance set, or to be put in the middle when playing more housy stuff. Rating: 7,5/10
B-side: A. Reyes aka Alex Trackone Remix Time for some more brutal stuff! If you think of the D-Formation mix as a nice & chilling journey, then this is the exact opposite. Right from the start, this track made me think of this old train going at 100 miles an hour. The percussion is something we hear more in the somewhat harder forms of techno, with tiny layers being added just every now and then, keeping the variety at the minimum level. The things that keep the track alive and kicking are the tiny minibreaks which are being enhanced by the original vocals and the constantly filtering percussion, backed by the almost industrial sounding bassline and a grinding synth playing this ever repeating set of notes. The best thing about this remix is the bassline that kicks in after every bit of silence, but apart from that its nothing special. I think a lot of people will see this as a rather monotone interpretation, and to be honest I can only agree with them. But, if you want to spice up your set with some rigorous techno, do check it out! Rating: 6/10
Conclusion:
D-Formation has turned the original into a nicely flowing piece of housy tastiness, with its stabbing bassline and inventive structure. Alex Trackone created a straight-to-the-point techno stomper which will probably be liked by people who like their music to be a lot harder. Now let's wait for '200V' to hit the shops!
