 A: Electro Shock
Following a number of top releases and a whole host of remix work, Fred Baker is teaming up with Greg Nash for three tracks of tech on the 2Play imprint. The first of this triplet is 'Electro Shock'. It has a good vibe right from the start with active bass and really penetrative kicks. The use of an off beat techno style snare towards the start of the track increases the techy feel of the track. The bass continues to drive and it is backed up by thick pulses of deep and grainy bass synth. The breakdown loses the beats and percussion and takes on something more melodic, comprising of some lead synths and the bass synths, creating a nicely contrasted interlude. The track eventually evolves into its final form which is lead by a techy stabbed hookline. The jittery synths go very nicely with the strong kick and the powerful pumping bassline. On a big system this one has real dancefloor damage potential!

 B1: Back From Amazonia
'Back From Amazonia' has a distinctly tribal feel to it, which is quite unsurprising if its name is anything to go by of course! Again Fred baker's use of that offbeat snare is a very prominent feature, really placing emphasis on the track's general level of 'techiness'. The other main feature here is a monotoned droning synth which benefits from time to time from some really heavy and twisted filtering. There is also a synth presence which is shrill and very intense at times. In the right clubs this is the kind of track which could whip up a real frenzy, simply because of the frenzied feel it gives out. It is very active and also gives out a tense sensation on top of the frenzy. Intense.

 B2: The Jungle
'The Jungle' is an interesting track and a good conclusion to the Three Track EP. It employs thick beats and an active, rolling bassline. The percussion and synthwork is much more standard as opposed to the busy and offbeat elements used in the previous two tracks. This isn't by any means a bad thing - its just easier to listen to and doesn't over complicate things. The general feeling I get when listening to this track is that I'm reminded of what you'd get if you crossed Frank Biazzi with something really quite trancey. Am I listening to trance or techno here? Its hard to answer that, and it gets even more diverse when you hear the jungly samples and voices coming through during the breakdown. When it drops though, you just don't care, the combination of the thick bass driving the trancey synths is just wicked and really hits the spot.

Conclusion:A fine addition to 2Play's growing catalogue of releases. 'Electro Shock' is all out tech and 'Back From Amazonia' reaches even further into a deep niche of the tech trance genre where only the hardcore enthusiasts dwell. Finally, 'The Jungle' brings it home with a superb smooth blend of tech and trance. Don't be fooled by its B2 position, its a corker!
