The Canadian Diva is back again with a CD of remixes from Hyper, Junkie XL, Thievery Corp, Dusted and Gabriel and Dresden among others. Don't Miss out on this one!

Sarah Mclachlan – Bloom – Remix Album (Nettwerk)

The Canadian Diva is back with another remix album called Bloom Remix Album, which features the remixes of her tracks from the last year and a half. Nettwerk have always been very smart marketing people from deciding to push remixes from Sarah Mclachlan and some think it was her vocal on Delerium’s Silence, with Tiesto’s remix that really pushed her to a wider audience. Since then, Hybrid, BT, Tiesto (with other remixes), Fade, Junkie XL, Hyper, Tom Middleton, Gabriel and Dresden among others have pushed Sarah Mclachlan to a wider audience. So her latest remix album is on the way from Nettwerk with the best of the current crop of remixers and artists.

1.Sarah Mclachlan – World on Fire (Junkie XL Club Mix)
2.Sarah Mclachlan – Ice (Dusted Mix)
3.Sarah Mclachlan – Vox (Tom Middleton Mix)
4.Sarah Mclachlan – Dirty Little Secret (Thievery Corporation Mix)
5.Sarah Mclachlan – Stupid (Hyper Remix)
6.Sarah Mclachlan – Train Wreck (Sly and Robbie Mix)
7.Sarah Mclachlan – Just Like Me (DMC feat. Mclachlan) (will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas Mix)
8.Sarah Mclachlan – Answer (Talvin Singh Mix)
9.Sarah Mclachlan – Fallen (Gabriel and Dresden Anti Gravity Mix)
10.Sarah Mclachlan – Fumbling Towards Ecstacy (Junior Boys Mix)

The CD starts off right with Junkie XL’s brilliant Mix of World on Fire, it seems that everything he touches, he turns into epic smashing remixes. His remix of Infusion’s Legacy is an example and this one is just amazing and too bad Nettwerk waited a year to release this CD because it’s a year old but still gets you moving.

Rollo from Faithless shows up here under his “Dusted” alias with Mark Bates, with an excellent mix of Ice, he takes the epic house route and turns this into memories of his glory days. I’ve never heard this before but I certainly like it. It reminds me more of “Always remember to honor and respect your mother”, which was a superb track.

Tom Middleton is probably the best producer/remixer around and no one can really touch his unique approach to everything. Vox uses a vox and then builds around it and moves on with the housy middleton approach, which has found some fans in John Digweed and likeminded deejays.

Washington’s Thievery Corporation turns in mix four at track four. I thought they were dead because they went boring after the richest man in Babylon. They take it in their bossanova chilled style direction and I’m sorry but this doesn’t do anything for me.

Hyper’s much hyped, yet little played awesome crowdpleasing remix of Stupid is here. I think it’s the best on the album. Hyper took an average song, added some nasty unforgettable riff with some heavy guitars and voila you have it, a real choon. Hyper’s mix was forgotten because Nettwerk did little to really hype it and that’s a real shame because its Hyper’s best work to date. The CD is worth it alone for Junkie XL’s track, Dusted’s remix, Hyper’s remix and Middleton’s mix and that’s only five tracks in.

I was completely shocked when I saw Sly and Robbie’s name on this disc because they don’t get the credit that they deserve, they take it in an unusual direction and its really different from anything they have done so far.

Will.I.Am from Black Eyed Peas turns in a mix here and last I checked, Nettwerk was not trying to get into throwaway candy coated mass produced R’N’B. This is probably the worst track on the disc and it just bothers my stomach, time to find the Pepto I guess. It does have DMC from the famous Run-DMC (R.I.P Run!) and they sing about the “Cat in the Hat”.

Talvin Singh appears and if you have not heard his work, shame on you, he is probably one of the most talented producers in the UK. He takes this and pushes it into his usual Indian sounding track and who knew Sarah Mclachlan had crossed that many boundaries.

Josh Gabriel and Dave Dresden’s massive Fallen remix comes in at track nine and sadly again, the disc is about a year too late to capitalize on the success of these tracks. While I am not that big of a G&D fan, there is no denying that this is a solid track that uses the vocal very well with an addictive bassline. It brings back the memories from a while ago, which I’m always happy for.

The last track brings in the Junior Boys mix of Fumbling Towards Ecstacy and while I am not the biggest Sarah Mclachlan fan, I always enjoyed this song and the Junior Boys certainly make you remember it.

Conclusion:
The CD contains some real corkers but sadly it is a year too late because these tracks were big in 2004 or earlier. Nettwerk was always the smartest label going but sadly they have lost the plot. If you love Sarah Mclachlan, this is essential and if you want the best remix album, buy her first one, its much better put together.
