If the new SvD remix of TDR's classic track 'Squelch' wasn't enough, Oxygen Recordings have got two more new remixes from Housetrap and TDR on offer...!
:: TDR - Squelch (Remixes) :: Oxygen Recordings :: OX009
A: Squelch (Housetrap Remix) The first of the two remixes on this disc is from Housetrap. Here they've done as SvD has also done - added their own twist but kept the core part of the track that holds the essence of 'Squelch'. Its a fairly steadily paced, methodical track which is based on thick, housey beats and really minimal set of percussive intruments. The Housetrap flavour comes from the mean and groovy bassline which rolls and writhes underneath the track, adding a really funky, groovy essence which should be welcome on the House floors out there. The 'Squelch' synth is retained, stabbing starkly and rhythmically as the track plays out. This stabbing synth holds an almost menacing feeling and it's almost hypnotic in a way. A great combo of housey sounds indeed.
AA: Squelch (TDR Remix) TDR himself provides the second remix here. Its a quite understated piece of funky-come-progressive house. There is a lot more in the way of percussion that can be heard here, giving the track a crisper edge. The beats aren't as tough and the bassline adopts a much more standard pattern, played by a bass guitar instrument. It has a much softer and kind of chilled feeling even with the synth stabbing away throughout the track and the breaks. The track is mainly a series of slow builds, rising and falling, gently easing you along with the beats and easy going bass. As chilled as it is funky, this one is on the gentler side of house music.
Conclusion:
Two more solid mixes of this great, classic tune. Oxygen Recordings has ventured more into its housier side here, and what better track to choose than 'Squelch'.
