Yousef and Behrouz are not quite A List deejays but Renaissance wanted to launch a series to give certain deejays a bigger platform for their careers, just like Nubreed did with six deejays. Do they have what it takes?
Renaissance presents Frontiers - Behrouz & Yousef
The mighty Renaissance has had a tremendous year so far, with the release of Mr.Zabiela’s mighty 2 CD disc. Now they are presenting deejays with a chance in the spolight just like Nubreed did with Lawler, Tommie, Howells, Burridge, Kleinenberg and Pappa. Behrouz and Yousef are not quite household names as Sasha, Digweed and Paul Oakenfold are but they have certainly been putting their dues in and they have been knocking on the door to the upper echelon of deejays for years.
Yousef won a Muzik Mag Bedroom deejay contest and ever since, his career has soared. He was one of the Cream residents for a while and he’s most known for playing a unique style of driving and funky house. He’s best known for deejaying with this close friend and amazing deejay in her own right, in Lottie. He’s played all over the world and Renaissance decided to give him one of the discs on this idea to give some of the almost bigger names, a platform to further launch their careers.
Behrouz is a San Francisco boy and he’s best friends with Deep Dish, who have been hammering his tracks for years. He’s well established in the USA house scene and look for this disc to push him further into the worldwide house scene. He’s always playing an upfront style to the masses and his many years of deejaying have made him even better. He loves to pick tracks that no one plays, just like Anthony Pappa and that’s refreshing to see in a world of deejays playing the same things.

Yousef’s disc starts this compilation and he starts it off in the right way, with funky house and its addictive right from the get go. He immediately heads into three more filler tracks that lead you into jazzy house but after track number five, look out, the disc starts to grab you. The highlight of the mix is his track with Mr.Fianciulli in an incredibly driving number called “I’m No Good” and I wonder when it will be hammered by more deejays, it is certainly a solid track.
Yousef continues pushing his mix forward with another fave of mine in Dan X’s and Justin Long’s Go! And then he follows that up with the always reliable Chicago houseman in DJ Sneak. I love how Yousef’s sound incorporates a lot of Chicago House with what the UK has to offer, it is quite a nice mix of sounds. We fastforward another few tracks and we hit Yousef and Justin Long’s $trictly Business track, which is very good but not as good as track six. He pushes Technasia and some other tracks until the end with Everyday
Behrouz’s mix goes incredibly more dark and you first realize this with the introduction. He brings in Tone Depth with a nice acapella at track three and you really start to see the music gaining ahold of you. Lucca Ricci’s adds what the world needs more of and that’s drums and more drums, which is always good. It goes into a smooth house track after that and right after that the always reliable Jaimy with this driving tracks. Jaimy seems underrated but every track that I’ve heard him make, has been a screamer.
The mix continues the rise into driving mode with Island Breeze and its just hypnotizing at times with the level of energy and the vocal over the beautiful workings of the track. The Youngsters appear at track with something that is almost electro but it is really nice. Underwater Rivers takes it into driving territory again and that’s always a good thing but its minimal features gain my attention and the riffs are so nice.
Sultan’s driving “You make me feel extacy” comes in at track nine and this reminds me so much of Deep Dish’s sound. It seems that DD have had so much influence on the sounds of today. Valentino Kanzyani’s remix of Penn and Chus comes in and he has taken it into an electro tinted workout but it still has the drive of the original. The final three tracks can be grouped together because they help surpass the plateau at the end.
Conclusion:
Yousef’s mix is smooth as silk and funky as hell and he will be an A list deejay very shortly, he has the talent and he never stands still. Behrouz will join him, his disc was driving house and it shows his talents. Much Props to Renaissance for having the courage to put something like this together and watch for Yousef and Behrouz in the future, they are bound to get even bigger.
