Progressive stormers are not a dime a dozen but when a Christopher Lawrence/JooF style stormer comes along, you need to check it out.
Singo – Plexi Music (Propulsion Records)
Proving that music is truly worldwide now, we are given one of the upcoming progressive jocks from Japan, think along the lines of Osamu M and others. Singo is one of the more forward thinking Japanese and his tough JooF/Christopher Lawrence progressive trance sound fits right in with Nicholas Bennison’s Propulsion records based out of Los Angeles. Propulsion Records has increasingly found a niche in people who love that tough progressive trance sound and the record label has released records from X-Cabs, Descent, Bennison himself and others. Look for another Chris Cowie record shortly as well from Propulsion.
Joining Singo on this release is CL McSpadden and Sterio and McGrath on remix duties.
Singo – Plexi Music (Propulsion Records)
A.Plexi Music (Original) B1.Plexi Music (CL McSpadden Remix) B2. Plexi Music (Sterio and McGrath Remix)
The original mix starts with a chunky but forceful beat with some claps on top of a nasty driving bassline and you just know that it is going to be something that will tear apart some dancefloors by feel. A minute in, the riff work kicks in and you know that this track is trying to grab you by the throat and strangle you to death. The sound effects that swirl in and out are a nice touch but this is just a bundle of energy of a track. Plexi Music just oozes energy and it always seems that the track is never done driving the energy through your speakers. I love the deep JooF/CL sound and this is what progressive trance should be, it should be just hypnotic driving energy tracks that kick you in the teeth. The riff and melody are so infectious, I’m already dancing and I think this will go down in clubs from Argentina to Hong Kong very well. About four minutes in, the track seems to lose a bit of the energy near the end but it still kicks you out of the driving seat and says get in the backseat. It is a tremendous track and probably has already found huge fans in Joof and CL among others.
CL McSpadden Remix
He uses slow moving drums to start his remix on the flipside of this release. McSpadden has taken a nasty progressive trance driver and moved it into a more dark slow burning progressive track. He uses about fifty percent of the energy of the original and lets it go and go but after the tremendous ride that was the original mix, I’m left a bit disappointed. I think it will appeal to the progressive jocks but this does little to improve or meet the same as the original, sure it is another direction but its really different. I’m not a big fan of this one.
Sterio and McGrath Remix
This starts much differently than the previous two because it uses a slow burning drumline and some sound effects, this is definitely for the progressive house lovers. It seems to have ditched all the energy of the original and just added some neat swirling sound effects. The remix uses some melodic riffs and makes it sound like an old progressive record, which should appeal to the progressive jocks. It sounds like a Sander Kleinenberg record circa 2002, it really does not do much for me and after the tremendous ride that was the original, I doubt there is nothing it can do to achieve the same level of fun.
Conclusion:
Get this record, just for the original thumping driving bundle of energy progressive trance and hope that JooF or CL get ahold of this, because you will be left stunned. The other two remixes are more for the progressive deejays and they are slower and don’t kick you in the teeth like the original. To sum it up in a few words – Propulsion does it again with the original being a nasty teeth grinding, earth shattering get in and buckle up progressive trance stormer. In Other words, fucking get in.
