Venom's new release is here! Again produced by the labelowner, this time we get treated with one massive dark hardtrancer plus a purely uplifting trance track on the flip of the disc. Will this be as good as Ace's previous tracks?
Venom Recordings has been around since 2002, but has only released seven vinyls since. This perfectly shows that the label's main aim is to create quality over quantity, a goal in which they definitely succeeded. Tunes like Ace's Delight - 'Mental Theme', Ace da Brain - 'Tales of Dusk and Dawn' and BACED vs. Ace's Delight - 'Witness' all encompass Ace's unsurpassable soundscapes and melodies which a lot of people seriously love. Following the label's tradition to bring two styles on one vinyl we have ourselves a hardtrancer on side A, while side B has been reserved for a full on trancy experience.
A-side: Depths of Doom The whole six minutes and sixteen seconds that this track takes is a constant journey through one of the harshest, meanest and darkest hardtrancers I've heard in well, ages. A seriously deadly vibe is already being ignited right at the beginning by throwing in a set of eerie strings backed by a slowly building array of percussional elements. Suddenly everything comes to a subtle halt, then for an immensely brutal bassdrum to start banging everything to pieces. A fat, raw bassline has been put into the foundation of the track, perfectly underlining the badass atmosphere. Crammed with cruel effects, highly energetic synthlines and a set of freightening melodies, the tune just builds on and on constantly creating devastation in every corner of the soundspectrum. Multiple well thought out breakdowns have been implemented, with each of them introducing more and more mental and obscure chords. The amount of agility and power that is being brought forward is truly out of this world! A bit of contrast appears during another break, which includes a huge choir and a superbly evil sounding piano. What happens after this is something that will literally blow you out of your shoes: just the kickdrum and bassline return, accompanied by a repeating bassy industrial sound to create the most brutal, inhuman climax I've heard in a long, long time. This is not hardtrance. It's hardtrance²! Rating: 8,5/10
B-side: Magic Waters Now for the exact opposite of side A. This one's more of a warm and comfortable experience filled with beautiful acoustic melodies, well placed synthlines and a very uplifting use of both percussion and effects. Right from the start, it brings about this very pure sunny feeling, caused by a relaxing piano melody which constantly builds itself out. The friendly playing percussion does its work in a good way, retaining a nice amount of energy along its way. Even during the build-up, the emotion literally bursts out of this track. A few fantastic chordchanges have been implemented to let the listener know that Ace is still able to create the best melodies around! The breakdown is once again a true piece of modernday art... A gorgeous emotional guitar melody appears, backed by beautiful strings to create an amazingly intense experience. All this is being torpeded to an even higher level by bringing in the main riff, consisting of a powerful piece of synth constructed around the guitar chords which is determined to take the listener to greater heights immediately. With the beats kicking in again, you'll notice that this track has everything you need in an emotive piece of elevating trance. If this doesn't induce goosebumps to appear on your skin, I guess nothing will. Outstanding! Rating: 9,5/10
Conclusion:
This release brings you two superb tracks on one vinyl. \'Depths of Doom\' is psychedelic, mean, harsh and above all truly banging with its raw beats and darkish melodies. \'Magic Waters\' is one hell of an uplifting trancer with a great, great main melody and an amount of emotion you won\'t find anywhere else. It doesn\'t matter if you\'re a fan of trance or hardtrance, you just have to get this!
