Talla 2XLC and Mike Shiver both bring us an interpretation of the latest single by one of Germany's pioneers in trance. Let's check them out!
The first vinyl of 'New Harvest' included Alex's original plus a deep remix by Human Blue, with the first one being a very uplifting energetic trancer coming with a very effective melody. Time to find out what these remixes are like.
A: Talla 2XLC Remix This mix has been made together with Talla's new studio partners RuDee and Woody van Eyden, with whom the single 'Manifesto' was made earlier this year as well. From the very start we are treated by a dark, grooving vibe guided onwards by percussion reminiscent of 'Manifesto', arrays of inventive FX and a thick and bouncing bassline. Elements of the original have been implemented in a nice way by bringing them in gradually in multiple mini-breaks. A somewhat techy feel is being brought forward by using stabbing synths, but the breakdown is of a somewhat different concept. A slightly muted version of the bassline rumbles on top of some of the original's main chords, accompanied by a more mean sounding riff and some wicked breakbeats to complete the package. This mix does not offer the elevating effect that the original featured, but insteads does things in a totally different approach by cumulating phat percussion, a deep bassline and a cool take on the originals melodies, resulting in a bunch of neat and superbly danceable climaxes! Rating: 8/10
B: Mike Shiver's Catching Sun Dub This Swedish trance producer brings us the second remix on the vinyl. Stylewise, this interpretation does not differ that much from the original. Its structure is rather reminiscent, and a lot of the effects have been taken over directly as well. The accent here has been put on a distinct trancy build we hear more nowadays, fueled by vastly playing synth chords, rolling basslines and a set of driving percussional elements. Not much exciting is happening during the build, with some first hints to the original uplifting melody gearing up slowly in the background. Strings galore in the break! The relaxing vocal bits have been injected here as well, but all in all this just doesn't add well, anything to the original. The melody builds up in the same way and the overall amount of energy lacks a bit. The track is definitely well-produced, but in my opinion a remix should add something to the original. And that's not what's happening here, unfortunately. Rating: 6/10
Conclusion:
Talla's remix is very cool. The darkish drive, big bassline and cool takes on the original make this a superb remix which will definitely light up dancefloors in no-time. Mike Shiver's version can't really catch me, so to speak. As I said, it's nice & polished, but just doesn't know how to differ from the original. But definitely don't be afraid to get this, because the A-side is all you need!
