Dogzilla's rock-influenced trance music has taken over clubland by storm during the past two years. Their new single is being released with an exclusive Ronald van Gelderen remix and is being played out by all the usual suspects, the perfect reason for an in-depth review.

Simon Patterson and Richie Kayvan are the two names behind Dogzilla. Simon comes straight from the dance scene, while Richie has also produced loads of other styles. That's exactly why the sound of this project is different from your usual piece of trance; it combines raw acoustic melodies with dancefloor approved percussion. Their previous tracks 'Dogzilla' and 'Your Eyes' both did very well, as well as their remixes for artists like Ernesto vs. Bastian, Narcotic Thrust and Poloroid.

A-side: Ronald van Gelderen Remix
Mister van Gelderen has recently released his single 'F!lth', being a raw and mean trancer with big basslines and a set of techy energetic melodies. He kind of continued in this style with this remix: badass percussional elements, a thick bassline and an amount of cool FX give the track its main drive, fueled by subtle guitar elements and vocals that have been taken from the original. The male vocals fit the overall darkish vibe very well, accompanied by that distinct techy style and a good use of driving, inventive melodies. Ronald's love for breakbeats comes forward during the first part of the break: broken beats give the track a completely new direction, with a few of the catchy main riffs and vocals on top of them. The real fun starts when the lead melody is being amplified by this very powerful stabby synth which injects an amazing amount of energy into the track's body. Building up to great heights, it eventually becomes one with the harsh percussion creating a superbly powerful, stomping climax which will make any crowd go mental. Quality!

B1: 12 Inch Mix
Time for Dogzilla's own original interpretation. Their crispy sound is instantly recognizable, with that double beat coming in every few bars and a percussion driven on by deep guitar melodies and phat basslines. In contrast to the remix on side A, the vocals have been implemented in a more full way by being pushed to the foreground a bit more, playing along nicely with all the other elements. A certain amount of emotion is also noticeable during the build because of the perfectly fitting acoustic riffs and deep, grinding synths. The break encompasses tight strings with the vox on top of them, guided onwards by a repeating rock guitar riff which definitely enhances the tune with its original sound. The main drop consists of a big stabbing synth as the main element, making friends with the well worked out male vocal lines and big percussion to create a really friendly and utterly danceable track. This is one of them tracks that generates a very positive feeling using its sweet lyrics, well thought out chords and sudden climaxes. Wicked as usual!

B2: Dogzilla Dub
This Dub comes with most of the sounds from the 12" Mix, differing mostly when concentrating on the structure. The overall drive seems a bit deeper and darker, mainly caused by harsh FX and a more present bassline because of the lack of most of the vox. The main chord lines have been kept intact, but one of the biggest differences with the B1 is the additional piano line that has been placed in the build-up. It kind of serves as a replacement for a few of the guitar lines, a thing which you will notice even more during the break. Soft choir sounds, a neat violin melody and the infectious piano all appear here in full form, making this a very good first instrumental part of the break. A line or two of the vocals appear here as well, but are being washed away soon by the (again) sudden kick-off of the full climatic experience. This is the perfect addition for people who do not like the vocals that much, or just like more instrumental trance better.

Conclusion:
I didn't give the three tracks individual ratings this time, because they all deserve an 8 out of 10 in their own way. Ronald van Gelderen's remix comes with a full set of techy tastyness, big basslines and a very energetic melody. The 12 Inch Mix combines the good vocals with that distinct Dogzilla style, using cool raw sounds and infectious melodies. The Dub's vibe is a little harsher it seems, getting rid of most of the vox and instead concentrating more on the melodies. If you like other Dogzilla productions, definitely check this out. All in all a great release!
