Beyond Unreal make their second appearance on the Dedicated record label with a new track, 'Blow Your Mind' with a remix from Stimulator on the flip...
:: Beyond Unreal - Blow Your Mind :: Dedicated :: DED020
A: Blow Your Mind (Original Mix) The track starts off with some quite retro sounding chords along with a harder edged bassline which is quite out of character from the usual Dedicated releases. The retro chords continue as the track grows and builds a solid base for itself. The sounds move more into the present day during and after the break as a lead synth takes over the chords, turning it more into a trancey riff than a retro chord progression. The bass is still rolling away at this point, and you can tell that this is one of those tracks that tries to quickly attain a state of energy and hold things there for the duration. This is something a little more 'hard dancey' if you like, something I think we'll see more of as Beyond Unreal continues to define and develop their style.
B: Blow Your Mind (Stimulator Remix) The remix by Stimulator has a much more powerful beat and crisper percussion. In fact, once the beat, bass and percussion are fully in swing, the track seems more techno in style so this vinyl really is a break from the norm for Dedicated indeed. Other than the trancey breakdown which features the synth hook from the original - and the break is one of the only really trancey bits of this remix - the main point of focus is an electro synth which plays a recurring pattern throughout most of the track. Its quite driving in a way, but theres something very familiar about it. To me, it sounds like its been almost totally lifted from 'Swarm', released on Intec earlier in the year. Anyway it worked for 'Swarm' and it does the job well here too. The only downer about this remix is a rather bizarre feature which will only really affect any DJs out there. On the way into and out of the track, there is a very frequent almost double beat, making it sound as if every bar or so a mix is going out of sync, so for a DJ, this could be a little on the frustrating side.
Conclusion:
Overall, a nice track with a nice remix. This vinyl is something quite different from Dedicated's usual style - mild flavours of both hard dance and techno are present here so its something worth checking out to see what you think.
