D:Fuse takes the biggest risk of his life, by doing a live mix with live instruments and then a chill disc for calming down. Check this out!
D:Fuse – People 3 – Live Album (Moist Music)
If success was measured by what a certain deejay or artist has achieved in the last 365 days, then Austin Texas’ D:Fuse would be in the top three. It has been a real good year for D:Fuse, his Prelude to Begin sold a bucketload of CDs, then his artist album called Begin sold so many CDs, that I’m sure he had to be sitting down to read the sales figures. D:Fuse was not done there, his monthly XM radio show gets over a 100,000 listeners, he even got into airline radio, where his chill mix for Delta Airways was a favorite.
D:Fuse aka Dustin Fusilier is from Texas and he was signed to Moonshine originally for a compilation in 1998 and his mix albums were huge and then he hit the big time. He was noticed by Paul Oakenfold and he was picked to open for the Perfecto Tour in North America, which really got him noticed. Ever since then, he has pushed his own sound and he has started to take more risks and open up musically.
People 3 is the third installment in his popular series, and this is a live recording. CD 1 was recorded live from San Francisco with help from Mike Hiratzka and the set up of electronic instruments and MC Flint on vocals. CD 2 is a chillout disc and it was recorded live in Austin for pre or post party listening.

CD 2 – People Chilling - Live in Austin

What you first notice about the disc is that it reminds you of the crowd of Magik 6 or Tiesto’s live CDs. The roar is deafening and when it starts, you realize that this is a one take mix and D:Fuse is really taking a chance here and he could end up as a laughing stock but he really believes in what he is talking about.
D:Fuse starts to build the set, which I imagined was probably planned in some regards, its not easy to play things live with guitars and drums and other instruments in front of a live audience, with a live recording on just one go. The set builds nicely and D:Fuse keeps adding more and more energy and the crowd feeds off it the entire way. The crowd just roars as every single track comes on and near the end, the crowd is near a frenzy.
It is hard to accurately describe the mix but the risk that D:Fuse has taken is shocking and not many deejays would do this but the results are just amazing. You honestly feel like you were in that club in San Francisco and the CD is an excellent representation of what happened. I find that D:Fuse has attempted to make you feel like you are in the club by using the only method to express himself that he knows too well and that’s music.
The Chill disc is really good, perfect for a preparty or after the club, when you want to calm down. The chilled out versions of the tracks are really nice and it really hits the spot, the only thing that I’ve ever seen close to this is Nick Warren’s GU024 CD 1. It is calm from beginning to end and you marvel how smart D:Fuse actually is.
Conclusion:
You may not be a big fan of D:Fuse but the risk that this man took, after being a deejay for at least a decade with this project, where one little screwup would have been a disaster for his career is astonishing. You gain new respect for a man who while overcoming his personal issues that plagued him in the last year, he comes up big and he shows again why he is one of America’s best kept secrets in terms of deejays. I have got it down to an equation
D:Fuse + Risk Taking + Innovation + A Goal + His own talent = People 3
Definitely worth getting, what a risktaker he is.
