Mr. van Doorn is back under his Sam Sharp alias for the formidible Reset Records with two new belters to keep the dancefloors hot as the winter nights loom in...
:: Sam Sharp - Hoover:Craft :: Reset Records :: RS016
A: Hoover I always look forward to tunes from Sam Sharp simply because every one thats come from his direction has been top drawer material. 'Hoover' lets you know right from the start that this also can't be missed. A quiet intro is a prelude to some awesomely filthy throbbing bass which has quality drive and a really sinister feel to it. Spooky, eerie synths also add to the sinister mood that's being created. The whole track is filled with edge-of-your-seat anticipation. Each part smoothly progresses to the next, taking the time nicely without rushing. Extra spookiness is created in the twisted sfx filled breakdown and then we witness the full strength of 'Hoover'. It rips back in with a super coarse synth which tears away along with the deep, booming bass. The floors will be on fire and the club will be rocking. I love this tune.
AA: Craft 'Craft' is its own tune, not a remix of 'Hoover', but you can tell they're quite closely related. Looking at the surface of the vinyl, you can see that they share a very similar structure and when you listen you can hear similarities in the sounds too. The track is driven by a strong beat and a more active, rolling bassline rather than the deep, all powerful booms of 'Hoover'. A combination of synths is used to create another sinister feeling, but these take on the form of more lead-type synths playing stabbed rhythms. The real lead comes to light in the breakdown - long stabs of a flat and daunting synth which fills every last nook of the track when it drops back in. It's not as raw as it's A-side counterpart but it'll drive the dancefloors on relentlessly all the same.
Conclusion:
Another stunning vinyl from Reset Records, courtesy of the unstoppable Sander van Doorn. 'Craft' is a strong and driving track but 'Hoover' is the shining light here - awesome bass, throbbing beats and some wickedly raw synths make this a beast of a track you need to get your hands on!
