DuMonde's personal label returns to bring two new mixes of older tracks by JamX & De-Leon themselves. X900 and DJ Gert have stepped up to bring us two new interpretations, both leaning towards the harder side of trance...
The two tracks on this disc are actually remakes of older tracks by Dominik and Jürgen. The A-side is a new mix of JamX's 'Warriors', while the B-side includes an updated version of the DJ Gert Remix of JamX's 'Keep It That Way'...
A-side: 9 Guys No Weapons (X900 Warriors Remix) X900 is actually Sebastian Ostermann, who also runs the Skydiver guise and produces together with Ace Da Brain under the Pervading Call moniker. The overall structure of this track is odd, to say the least. It all starts off with a woman chanting out some random lines about reports being wrong, which seem to be taken from a song called 'Killin' Fields' by Method Man. Anyways, a somewhat oldschool sounding percussion enters in right after it, guided onwards by a thumping bassdrum and FX that have a rather gloomy vibe over them. Tiny bits of vox are being injected into the track's body every now and then, with a simple bassline backing them up to make things sound just a tad fuller. The overall sound of this track sounds quite simplistic, but it does have this certain dark feeling in it which subtly compensates the rather low productional quality. Spooky synthlines are also a main ingredient, constantly repeating themselves just until the main break arrives. A mixture off strange sounds and more vocals from the movie 'The Warriors' are being brought out here, to be followed by an array of repeating synths once again. All in all, this is a very odd track that will most likely be ignored by most people. It does have some dancefloor capabilities, but it's too simple to be remembered. Rating: 6,5/10
B-side: Keep It That Way (DJ Gert Mix Re-Work) I haven't heard the 'original' DJ Gert Remix, so I honestly can't really comment on the differences between it and the track that's being reviewed here. Again, an oldschool trancy vibe is being rocketstarted at the beginning, with crunchy basses and a simple but well working set of percussional elements. It's really noticeable that this is a rework of an older track by just concentrating on all the backing elements etcetera. Everything is being brought in very carefully, which is quite a difference with today's trance. Vocal drops are being put in every now and then, then for a set of stabbing synths to induce a bunch of building climaxes to be created. The main element in this track is a melody that reminds of a trumpet-like instrument somehow, playing a short but catchy set of chords which is being replaced by a bit of synthwork later on. I can't really define this track because the original is kind of old. It can't really measure with today's productional quality and sounds, but I think this could still work out on the floors because of its sheer ability to just rock around a bit. Rating: 6,5/10
Conclusion:
All in all, I don't really understand why they've decided to re-release these tunes. The originals are being seen as classics by many people, and these remix aren't that special to be honest. I heard that DuMonde's new single 'I Feel You' is coming out next on F8T, so keep your ears open!
