The most recent addition to one of trance's most commented on labels, A State Of Trance, is a production by the one and only Goldenscan project. I urge you to read on to find out just why this track has turned out to be so special...

Goldenscan is comprised of a trio of producers: Ed Goring, Tom Lindley and Mark McCormick. They've seen their production and remix work hit high profile trance labels such as ATCR, Lost Language, Euphonic and VC to name a few. This is their first outing on Armin's ASOT imprint, a label which most would agree has failed to impress over the past 6 months - a world away from some of its initial, blinding releases. However, Goldenscan have stepped up and slammed some tantalising tracks down which look set to rejuvenate things no end...

:: Goldenscan - Only With You / Halcyon
:: A State Of Trance
:: ASOT048

1) Only With You

I love how 'Only With You' begins. The beat is strong and punchy and it is energised by an active synth presence which is in turn quickly backed up by some bubbling bass. All of this makes for an extremely assertive start. The track continues by adding layers of smooth pads and trancey chord progressions so you have something that drives and flows with the greatest of ease and just compels the listener into wanting more and more. There is a superbly subtle vocal element to this track - the vocals from 1991's 'Only You' by Praise. The vocals themselves were sung by Miriam Stockley and they play a truly and definitively awesome role in this track. The breakdown is where the track melts into a sea of lush pad sounds. These are sounds to die for - they surround and envelope you, everything a top quality trance synth should do. As more and more beautifully melodic synthwork comes into play, the vocal does its damage, hauntingly flowing into and out of the synths, also acting as a synth in itself. Its sublime and will fill you with joy. If you thought that was enough, the melody that comes in when the track drops back in is just as excellent. Its another highly refined trance synth, smooth, pure and full of uplifting energy. We're treated to a second break with some breakbeats and a short climax and then one last powerful, trancey, full on section of this wonderful, wonderful track. Its magnificent and I love it.

2) Halcyon
'Halcyon' picks up after about a minute of a semi intro-like section and proceeds to add layer upon layer of trancey elements until you realise you're listening to a pretty full on track with some wicked chord changes, smooth synths lining the background and a vocal element that tops things off nicely. The breakdown in this track is quite long with 2 distinct parts - a fairly silent initial section which focuses on the vocal and then a second, climactic section which readies you for the main portion of this trance belter. The main melodic flow here comes from three sources - the vocals, the trancey chords and melodic hooks. Each part itself is fairly subtle, but combined they bring the track to life and make it beautiful to listen to.

Conclusion:
It seems like a long while since we've seen a Goldenscan production come along, but its been worth every second of the wait. 'Halcyon' is a lovely, trancey track which should appease all trance lovers out there, but 'Only With You' is just something else. It's a momentous, gargantuan piece of trance which will blow you away. I can't recommend this one highly enough. It's everything I want trance to be and more.
