Andreas Schmidt and Sebastian Ostermann have teamed up again to bring us the third single under their highly acclaimed Pervading Call Two guise. As usual, the two producers have both provided their own interpretation of the tune. Read on to find out what they're like!
'Destiny' and 'No Time To Rest' we're released previously using the Pervading Call alias, both combining great melodies and crisp percussion to great extent. Let's find out what 'On My Mind' is like!
A-side: Ace Da Brain Mix If you've heard a few of Ace's other productions, you might already know a bit what to expect here. His works on his own label Venom Recordings all bring a combination of euphoric, emotional melodies and a superb productional quality, and the tune that's being reviewed here goes on in the exact same tradition! Unlike a bunch of other tunes by Andreas, this one starts off with a well mixable bit of percussion, eerie FX and a slick, deep and rolling bassline. It's instantly noticeable that this is going to be one hell of an atmospheric journey once again, led onwards by loads of well thought out backing melodies, subtle chord changes and an array of effects that makes you cringe for more. A slight amount of emotive synthwork slowly brings you into the break, which is once again truly wonderful... At first sight, we get treated by a set of calm, smooth strings playing the prelude of a delightful, relaxing set of chords. Superb choir lines are being added to enhance the full experience, but the ultimate spine-tingling moment appears when everything unites and powers up to great heights. Hands in the air to the max! Suddenly, this sweet lil' melody starts powering up behind the track's main structure, building out to become a superstrong riff which works out really nicely with the bouncing bassline and good percussion. Ace has once again outdone himself! Rating: 9/10
B-side: X900 Mix All right, this mix is quite the opposite of what we get on the A-side. Taking just under five and a half minutes, it is really kind of a disgrace to what we get treated with on the flipside in my opinion. A simple bit of percussion and a grinding, repetitive bassline are the main ingredients, but the main thing that totally annoyed me is this constantly repeating vocal sort of thing that has been placed at the background of most parts of the track. The only good thing about this mix is that a good part of the melodies from the A-side's break have been kept intact, which kind of make you think that some sort of riff will appear... But instead, the vocal thingie returns again with just the bassline and percussion behind it. I can't get into this at all unfortunately! Rating: 5/10
Conclusion:
Ace Da Brain's mix is a wonderful piece of strong, uplifting trance with some good goosebumps moments, thick basses and strong riffs. X900's Mix sounds like it was made in a few hours and doesn't really go, well, anywhere. If you were planning on getting this, definitely go for the A-side!
