The latest on the Progrez imprint is a project from Danjo & Styles. Expect some sweet, trancey flavours from these two in this new double track release...
The well known duo of DJ Danjo [Danjo Raijer] and Rob Styles are keeping their Primer project in good shape with more tracks, and this time there are two new ones to get stuck into: 'Morgana' and 'Skywalker'.
:: Danjo & Styles Pres. Primer - Morgana / Skywalker :: Progrez :: BONPR004-12
1) Morgana 'Morgana' kicks off at a nice pace fuelled by a kick with rounded yet noticeably punchy sound. This early energy is fuelled more so by the active, rolling bassline which acts as the main driving force as the track progresses. The next few minutes are spent building things up and introducing lots of different synthy elements. Theres a lot of nice sweeping sfx in the background, a jittery synth rhythm working away just underneath the bass and other small melodies which begin to filter through. Eventually - around about where the looovely string pads begin to sweep, you realise that the track has attained an excellent fullness and at that perfect moment you hit the breakdown. The string pads continue to do their blissful thing over and over in what is essentially just a mass of beautiful synths as the beat, bass and most of the percussion have been dropped at this point. The break continues in order to let the main melody build up and eventually kick in properly with the rest of the track. This is where the track is at it's best because the melody is just fantastic and it's played by a superlush synth - a smooth, vast sound which both complements everything else going on and acts as the perfect lead too. A wicked touch to this track is the way that each synth part sort of takes it in turn to get a piece of the action - at key points one synth will grow louder as the others fall back and the effect created is superb, it kind of creates a new synthline made up of all of them. Interesting and quality to listen to!
2) Skywalker 'Skywalker' has a more mellow feeling than the A-side of this release, but that doesn't mean it lacks energy! Again an active bassline is present, keeping a good rhythm whilst some synthy bits in the background keep the tone steady and progressive. This track shares the same structure as 'Morgana' - eventually we hit a calm, ambient and synthy breakdown. The smooth and gentle chords invite a melody which you can hear brewing in the background. It grows and grows and has a very emotional feel to it, plus it's a long and flowing melody as opposed to a short and snappy trancey hook. Things take a tougher turn as the melody becomes snappier in nature but whilst maintaining its tranciness. This precedes the drop where the melody is played out fully, accompanied by all other elements. You'd be forgiven for thinking that this was an instrumental version of a vocal track because of the length of the melody. Plus the way it continues to change and the way it's played does invoke the feeling that it's following a vocal line. Overall, really nice, heartfelt trance.
Conclusion:
A cracking release by Danjo & Styles. They've hit an excellently trancey note here - 'Skywalker' evolves from softness into something with an extra hint of toughness and the beautiful 'Morgana' demonstrates true trancey power with it's full on synths and awesome melodies. Don't miss this one!
