New release’s on Paul van Dyk’s Vandit label are always worth having a listen to and here release number fifty two featuring Italian producer Guiseppe Ottaviani with support from Marc Van Linden.

For those who do not know Giuseppe Ottaviani he is otherwise known for being one half of Nu-NRG, who’s past release’s speak volumes for his producing skills. This release on vandit is his first solo offering but don’t worry though he is working with his Nu-NRG partner Andrea Ribeca on future releases under the Nu-NRG name.

:: A1 – Linking People (Original Mix)
:: B1 – Linking People (Marc Van Linden Remix)
:: B2 – White Lady

Producing solo work after having a long history of releases under a successful alias is always a test of your production skills but I’m sure Guiseppe has enough of those to make a success of his solo releases.

As always with a lot of tracks released on Vandit you may well have heard this track littering the recent sets of Paul van Dyk who would be a very good target to promote your music at the moment with his DJ Mag award in the cabinet.

The original mix kicks off with a very forceful bassline which you can sense will feed you all the elements of the track in good time. Wasting no time snippets of the main melody start to come in stringing together a nice little build before the track breaks into silence. After a brief period of relaxed build the sounds build the strings get more intense and the melody starts to pull you in. Bang the bass comes back and the track is in full flow with an uplifting energy to it that just hooks you into the track. After a break it comes back for second helpings and very well received they are as I really like the melody used here.

Expecting a hard thump to this mix it does nothing to disappoint opening with a solid bassline and aggressive kick in typical Linden style. The melody from the original has not been changed in this mix but there seems to be a darker feel to how it’s built up. I would describe it as hard deep and dark with an aggressive pace and when the main melody does come in its fed in and out then cut into a thumping deep build up. Linden mixes seem to get the balance between uplifting and banging without making either stand out but smoothly fit into one track. You could say the Linden mix offer’s more of a techy approach than a progressively uplifting offering.

Those two tracks would be good enough to put a release out but here’s a track in a different style to what you would expect from Ottaviani. White Lady comes across to me as a fast paced house track with different elements and deep sounds and an almost filtered guitar riff in the build up. It’s all a little bit funky on the build with the effected piano driven melody sliding in as the track cuts the bass and brings an unexpected breakbeat backing while the piano riff plays. Cut the breakbeat bring back the main beat and you have here a very solid hook to relaxed after the main offerings on the release.

Conclusion:
As a solo offering goes this is a very good release. That Nu-NRG sound is there but you would expect to be. Linking people is a very good record, the uplifting chasers will grab the original mix but those who like that banging variety Linden offer’s will go for his mix. For something altogether very different White Lady may not be an pounding uplifting trance but Ottaviani has proved with it he can offer something that little bit different as a solo producer. Vandit don’t usually sign poor records and that trend is not broken here as this is a very good release, well worth checking out.
