The Bristolian duo are back with another massive stormer from Distinctive, with tons of huge remixes of quality breakbeat trance, including Fred Numf, and Phunk Investigation...

Since the early 90s, Way Out West have been releasing quality and quality over and over again. With productions such as Blue EP, The Fall, Activitiy, Montana, Ajare, and now the release of Mindcircus, Jody Wisternoff and Nick Warren have constantly amazed all. Openly praised by Sasha, Brian Transeau, John Digweed, Nick Muir and all the big names, not one remix of production from them have been disappointing and this is no exception.

With a single release on retail on the 25th of February, the promos are already being hammered since November of last year.

Trisha Lee Kelshall on the vox, combined with the fusion of breakbeat with a touch of vocal trance to a devastating effect, has attracted so many of the top remixers on this 2nd release from their acclaimed "Intensify" Album

Remixes:

Original Mix
Way Out West Club Mix
Gabriel & Dresden Mix
Tarrentella & Redanka Vocal Mix
Tarrentella & Redanka Dub Mix
Fred Numf vs Etienne Overdijk Mix
Phunk Investigation Mix
Phunk Investigation Dub

And soon to come:

Jay Welsh Black Ice Remix
Jay Welsh Sleepwalkers Remix

The Original Mix is of typical Way Out West progressive breaks style, with those climbing riffs and stunning percussions which make Way Out West the quality they are. But like most of their Original mixes, Way Out West keeps it clean and simple, without any special effects of sound stabs.

Bring in the Way Out West Club Mix, and you get a stunning 8 minutes of pure club quality progression. Energy fills the speakers from the first beat, and rolls all the way to the end. Personally this is one of the strongest mixes and has been played by everyone from BT, to Hybrid, to Way Out West themselves, and even Oakenfold has been said to be loving it.

New boys Gabriel and Dresden bring in a more melodic mix which borders the realms of trance, and takes away some of those beats made famous by WoW. Some would consider this a somewhat 'weaker' mix, but I think that this mix is a nice track to finish at 6am or on a beach party. Pete Tong dropped this track around Christmas and it sure caused a big stir.

Then we bring in Whoop! Records specialists Tarrentella & Redanka, known for previously wrecking dancefloors with their progressive monsters such as Sonic Strategy, and Karma. This mix is a much chunkier one, with those deeper progressive grooves which Tarrentella and Redanka are famous for. This mix would go down well in the likes of Renaissance, or a Dave Seaman / Nigel Dawson set.

Heading over to the funkier and darker mixes of Mindcircus, we get the Fred Numf vs Overdijk Mix, and also the Phunk Investigation remixes. Fred Numf vs Overdijk, originating from Holland, adds a little dutch flavour to the track, distorting the melody slightly, but the track is still there. To me, the weakest mix is the Fred Numf vs Overdijk Mix as it seems to take away the energy which the track was intended. Going deeper and darker, we get Phunk Investigation's dubbier mixes championed by Steve Lawler in his recent sets. A darker trip to progressive house is seen here, with a few break stabs and beat punches, but definitely removing the melodic factor here. A well produced remix for the techier fans of trance.

Finally, we reach the currently unreleased remixes by Jay Welsh, or the Four Horseman, and a major producer for Baroque Records, one of those dirty trancey labels which brings out the likes of Tilt - Headstrong and such. I have yet to grab hold of these remixes, but they are on promo right now from Distinctive Records, so grab them when you can as they will be nice and dark for the progressive heads.

A damn nice set of remixes, and theres bound to have more from where that came from. Look out for a possible Way Out West Interview from i:Vibes in the near future.
