Richie "Cutting Edge" Hawtin is back with the next DE 9 volume called Transitions, its the usual Hawtin, using technology to go where no one has gone before. Check it out!
Richie Hawtin – DE : 9 Transistions (Novamute/Minus)
The crazy haired man is back, Richie Hawtin, is probably one of Canada’s best kept secrets and most people do not realize that the UK born man is actually Canadian. He sadly lives near Windsor apart from the times that he is not in Berlin making music. He really needs no introduction, he runs Minus, his fights with Dave Clarke were great press, and his ground breaking plays with new technology and his music is that damn good. Well Hawtin is back with a CD/DVD this time with the next DE 9 volume, which contains over 80 tracks and samples, we won’t list them here because it’s a simpler read.
Hawtin gives you the latest mix using abletron and many other technologies and the DVD is the full 96 min mix (cut down to 21 tracks for CD) in 5.1 Dolby with videos.
The mix contains loops and samples that cannot all be listed here, its over 80 + and the CD is tracks 1-21 and the DVD is the full 28 tracks

Richie Hawtin’s work is pure genius, some think that the man lives in a state of minimalist techno 24/7 but Hawtin is always thinking ahead of everyone else and he is always trying to accomplish new things with technology. He is working with Abletron currently to develop something more to his liking and you might see it in stores someday down the road. Hawtin never sits still, he may be outspoken and mean at times but the mean dealt with the Detroit techno Mafia mad at him and countless other ego maniac techno deejays.
Hawtin’s mix is very minimalist and its hard to describe in accurate detail because Hawtin is constantly throwing loops and samples from many records into the fray and you are getting something very unique and groundbreaking. The mix really picks up pace and it’s a deep dark journey into minimal techno with track after track of cutting edge forward thinking deejaying. Hawtin’s DE 9 alias seems to explore new territory all the time and this is no different.
The DVD’s mix in Dolby 5.1 is spectacular and if you don’t have 5.1, then go to a friend’s house like me who has an expensive stereo system. Its just amazing and the clarity is something else. The DVD also contains some of Hawtin’s set from Timewarp 2005, which is really different for those who cannot make it to Germany every year. It also contains interviews with Hawtin about what he is trying to accomplish and it shows that he’s not content standing still and that’s really great.
Conclusion:
Its hard to accurately describe but Hawtin succeeds in pushing the cutting edge of things again with Transitions. I love how its deep, dark and just plain minimalist and you don’t get anything like it because no deejay could copy all the loops and samples. Get this if you love all things minimal and Hawtin is really a leader in the music industry.
