One of last year's most impressive dancefloor crackers returns with a slick new remix by the Belgian Filterheadz duo, plus a new interpretation by the Woodsman himself...
'Advanced' was recently chosen as the official Trance Energy 2006 theme and is set to be Marcel Woods' biggest release to date. The original and Ton TB Remix were released just a few months ago, and now High Contrast brings us a neat remix disc... Time to check out the tunes!
A-side: Filterheadz Love Distortion Remix The Filterheadz are known for their summer-ish tribal techno sound which is always combined with some slightly trancy elements. This ten and a half minute ride takes you on a journey through big amounts of bass, constantly building yet very entertaining percussion and a slick amount of drive. As the tune progresses, an incredible pace becomes hearable, mostly fueled on by that neat use of percussion and the fast, ever boiling bassline. One of the elements that has been left intact from the original is an altered version of the main riff, which is constantly shifting behind the rest of the track. Subtle chord changes have been implemented by the remixers as well, giving the tune a completely different feel than the original. About halfway through, an immense breakdown starts igniting itself through the speakers, including bits of the original's vocals and a phattened up version of that distinct bassline. Coolness all the way! The techy percussion blends in quite neatly, resulting in a remix that adds a whole new dimension to the original. Thumbs up! Rating: 8/10
B-side: Woods Re-Visited Mix While the original was more of a straight-to-the-point banging affair, this one does things completely differently. It ís still banging (so to speak), but the overall structure is of a whole other type. The tune relies on a stubborn sounding, yet amazing bassline that is a perfect example of one that makes people go nuts immediately when hearing the first notes. The percussion sounds very crisp and clean and is being backed by vocal hints, just until the bassline starts altering itself using a thick mini-break. Madness all the way, and we're not even at the main break yet! Mean, stabbing synths take over control, enabling the track to build to the moment where a few of the original's riffs start appearing. Raw, dark chords take on a leading role here, with the main bell-like riff we all know by now entering just a while later. This time it's being taken over by a vicious, mean as hell distorted sound, which definitely works out in a great way. Incorporating that wonderful bassline during the climax, this remix is definitely as tasty as the original. Rating: 8/10
Conclusion:
The Filterheadz have made an outstanding techno-ish remix, combining driving percussional elements with cool hints to the original. Woods' own new interpretation also knows how to keep you rocking by using a lot of dark, raw elements to great effect. A more than worthy remix vinyl!
