Having only quite recently released a collaborative production on 2 Play, Fred Baker and Greg Nash are back very soon with yet another three tracks of techy trance for us...
:: Fred Baker Vs. Greg Nash - The System EP :: 2 Play :: 2PLAY012
A: System Activated (Fred Baker Mix) The first mix of 'System Activated' is a well paced and strongly driven affair. The kicks are strong and tough and the percussion is as crisp as a frosty morning. As the track surges onwards from the beginning, synths and a rhythmic, energetic bassline rise up from the background. You're powered along to the breakdown where things get quite ambient and trancey for a while, offering a very stark contrast to what we've just heard. This is just the calm before the storm though, as the synths soon filter their way back in just as the track quite simply bursts into life. Kicks are pounding, the synths are pulsing and the bassline relentlessly drives things onward. This is really energetic tech trance!
B1: System Overload 'System Overload' is still fuelled by really tough beats but it feels a bit chunkier due to the techno style percussion, which has a tribal touch to it. One of the main things here is the totally raw and twisted bassline which fuels the track. Alternating between two notes on every beat, it warps and grinds its way through you with a downright dirty techno vibe. Again we see another trancey breakdown, but this time it's dominated by bass and synths which have a very dark and ominous nature about them. These synths take on a melodic hook when the track drops in, providing you with a fusion of techy, twisted beats with an element of trance mixed up in there somewhere. This track feels powerful without blasting off at a frantic pace.
B2: System Activated (Greg Nash Mix) Greg Nash's mix of 'System Activated' is nigh on identical to Fred Baker's. It's missing the percussive intro section, plus overall the synths and instruments used (which are incredibly similar to Baker's mix also) aren't as fierce as before. The result is something less techy and more trancey, but it's essentially the same track.
Conclusion:
Fred Baker and Greg Nash seem to be on a roll at the moment. This latest EP is another gem filled with 3 strong tracks which keep the tech nice and tough indeed!
