Dutch producers Jeroen Beltman and Martijn Endenburg brings us a slice of fresh, funky trance using their Varian alias on their own label. Following up on the massive 'Endless Desire', expectations are high... Read on!
Varian Records was set up back in 2004 and has brought us four equallly impressive releases, consisting of three vinyls including different Varian tunes like 'Passion', 'No Way Out' and the highly acclaimed 'Endless Desire'. Niklas Harding & Tyu's 'Butterfly Effect' was release no. 4 and also included a Lucas & Beltram remix, which is Jeroen and Martijn's other moniker. Last year, Anjunabeats also picked up Lucas & Beltram's 'Trust Me', another piece of deep yet very driving and energetic trance. Vocals on 'Reach The Light' are done by Tyrah Morena, who you might also remember from 'No Way Out'.
A-side: Original Dub Mix The sound that the producers have been bringing forward in their most recent releases can be described as very crisp and lean, but above all superbly distinct and driving. They have implemented and combined crunchy bassdrums, deep wobbling basslines and slick melodic hints during the build, all being guided onwards by an array of original effects and other backing goodness. Another very recognizable feature of Jeroen and Martijn's sound is the use of rather simple sounding, but very well worked out lil' melodies that just make you beg for more. The catchyness just bursts out of it just until you hit the break. At first sight, this breakdown brings forward a subtle, moody part, but then things start to get shaken & stirred to maximum heights by bringing in that exact same melody we heard during the build, but this time in a form that induces a super slick amount of drive to be injected into the sound spectrum. The return of the full percussion and bassline combined with that amazingly infectious melody creates a stunning climax that will certainly have the effect of a crate of dynamite exploding on your dancefloor. Wicked to the max! Rating: 8/10
B-side: Original Vocal Mix The base of this mix is essentially the same as the one used in the Dub, but the main difference of course consist of the implementation of Tyrah's vocals. I must say I'm not a big fan of vocal trance, but this one hits just the right spot for me; during the build a clear, pretty set of vocals is being highlighted, subtly moving on to maximize listening pleasure. The constant repeating of the words 'Reach The Light' during the break definitely enhance the amount of tension that's being created, with the vocals all in all being a very welcome addition to the already great Dub mix. Rating: 8/10
Conclusion:
Seems like Jeroen and Martijn just cannot do wrong at the moment. 'Reach The Light' is an impressive piece of inventive, proggy and energetic trance with a good Dub and a Vocal mix being served on the disc to suit just about everyone's needs. Don't forget to check this one out!
