One of trance giants Anjunabeat's latest releases is a two track record from an up and coming artist, Sunny Lax, who is offering up some pretty wicked trance...
Sunny Lax - PUMA / Cassiopeia :: Anjunabeats :: ANJ056
A: PUMA 'PUMA' has a slightly darkened feel to it as it starts. This comes from the heavy kick and deep, rolling basses which push things forward with steady drive and intent. As the track progresses, we hit a small break, backed with ambience which then turns into a melodic backing as the track kicks back with stronger bass an d a lot more drive. The synths are excellent - they line the track with a fine, fine sound and pulse out a slow chord progression rhythmically on the off-beat. The breakdown sees the introduction of a free flowing lead instrument, which plays convoluted melodies over the top of everything that's been built up so far. This melodyline has an almost freestyle feel to it, so it sounds fresh innovative and free. The end result is a really uplifting finalé to this cool little number.
B: Cassiopeia 'Cassiopeia' immediately feel a lot more laid back than its A-side counterpart, but don't let this detract from the track itself. 'Cassiopeia' is a slow building trance monster, with subtlety as it's greatest weapon. The track is lead by a high pitched, clean and gentle instrument which plays a very simple melody. The true beauty lies in the backing pads. They're thick and lush with such a full sound. The full effect is felt post-breakdown when these two clearly defined elements are joined together and raise the track to another level. It's beautiful, uplifting, euphoric and nicely upbeat without being too 'in your face'. My personal favourite of this pair of quality tracks.
Conclusion:
Again Anjunabeats doesn't disappoint as they deliver another two tracks of the type of trance they excel in. Both are fantastic, but 'Cassiopeia' does that little extra for me.
