Just out on Mondo is a track from the Zirenz project. Expect smooth flowing trance here and also some more progressive styles courtesy of Gavyn Mytchel's remix...
'Utopia' is the product of the up and coming talents of two classically trained female vocalists, songwriters and producers Catrin Llewelyn and Rebecca Hazard (aka: Zirenz) who's trance and house projects have been stoking much interest in the dance scene. This latest track has attracted the attention of names such as Graham Gold, Jon O'Bir, John Askew and Armin Van Buuren so it's definitely getting the right recommendations.
:: Zirenz - Utopia :: Mondo Records
1) Utopia (Dub Mix) The Dub Mix of 'Utopia' is the big trancey monster of the release. It's a gentle blend of sound, which builds itself up through the use of sweeping atmospheric pads, lush synths and active bass which is all iced with the subtle use of the seductive voice of Catrin Llewelyn. The goodness doesn't stop there either - after the breakdown is done, the track kicks back in with a lovely melodic hook alongside what has already been established before the break. Uplifting and euphoric using smooth melody instead of huge power chords, this is a pretty dreamy piece of trance which most dancefloors should enjoy.
2) Utopia (Original Mix) The Original Mix is just the same as the Dub Mix other than the presence of some extra vocals in the breakdown. Your view on this version of the track will be based on how you like your vocal trance. It may be too vocal for some, but that doesn't matter as the Dub Mix is always there and having two versions of this track just makes for that extra bit of variety.
3) Gavyn Mytchel 003 Remix) Here the pace is toned down a bit and the track is given an almost techy edge. The bass is more of a slow, driving force than an active sound here, and there is still a strong synth presence - lots of pads, sweeps and soothing chords to layer the track with thick trancey sound. There is a breakbeat interlude halfway through which is nice and this allows the track to really kick back in nicely when it's time. The arpeggiated synths and long pads in the background really give this track an epic feel and even though theres no true uplifting melodic element, the fine sounds and the track's solidarity make it great to listen to.
Conclusion:
A very strong release with two distinct flavours: Zirenz' uplifting and trancey sound with a hint of sweet vocals or a moody, solid interpretation of trance from Gavyn Mytchel. Top stuff, you'd expect nothing less from Mondo.
