Jose Amnesia makes a second appearance on Dutch trance label KYR Records and, with the help of the vocal talents of Linn, I think we're in for a trancey delight...
:: Jose Amnesia Feat. Linn - Closer :: KYR Records :: KYR334
A: Closer (Vocal Club Mix) 'Closer' is built up by a lot of quality, solid sounds. A soft edged but deep kick runs along with bass that has good depth, there is a soft, gentle and somewhat eerie synth presence plus the whole thing is laced delicately with small vocal snippets. Linn stretches her vocal chords fully during the breakdown which this leads you on to the main section of the production. The emphasis here is on thick, trancey synths which run through a repeating melodic hook. The bassline changes combined with the overlying vocals make this a sweet and beautiful piece of trance. It's really quite calm and soothing, but the depth of the thick, lush sounds give it a lot of emotive power.
B1: Closer (Dub Mix) The Dub Mix of 'Closer' is the same as the Vocal Club Mix other than the main vocals are missing from the breakdown and final sections of the tune.
B2: Closer (In Deep Space Mix) This 3rd mix of 'Closer' is a trip into the land of progressive. A closer inspection shows that it is structured the same as the other two mixes, but sounds quite different. The deep bass has been replaced by a weaker, more rolling bass and a lot of the ambient synths have been removed, putting the focus onto constant forwards movement instead of the inherent dreaminess of standard trance. The track stays very similar throughout, other than bringing in some repeating synth chords after the breakdown which beef up the sound a little whilst sticking to the incredibly progressive style this track is forged from.
Conclusion:
A really sweet piece of work from Jose Amnesia who rarely disappoints these days. The first two tracks are great, dreamy trance tracks which deserve a good listen whilst the 3rd is very, very progressive so it'll probably only appeal to those proggy purists out there.
