Thomas Bronzwaer is back on Yakuza with his second release. Along with it comes a remix from Midway so everything is set for another strong Yakuza release...
:: Thomas Bronzwaer - Shadow World :: Yakuza :: YAK011
A: Shadow World (Original Mix) 'Shadow World' carries a lot of atmosphere along with it. The entire beginning section is a methodical and strongly executed buildup, piling on the bass and the layers of course, techy synths. It's hard to tell where the track is going to go as it hits its eerie breakdown but everything becomes clear when a strong and trancey melody is introduced. The synth that plays it carries good strength and power and lets the fantastic melody ring out across the whole track. Thomas has got the balance between tech and trance to create a superstrong driving production with a trancey edge that easily holds its own and is already appearing on trance compilations that will emerge in the near future.
B: Shadow World (Midway Remix) Midway have done excellent work on their remix of 'Shadow World'. The short introduction makes you think you're in for some gentle trance but out of this erupts a solid kick and smooth rolling bass. Some gentle trancey melodies start to sway things towards the calmer side but Midway make even more adjustments to the sound so eventually you have a pumping beat pushing along a much techier sounding riff. You get a slight feeling of minimalism but this works well and doesn't make the track feel isolated. I like the way this track continually changes its mood - further on, it switches back and forth between gentler sections and more driving techy sections. More top stuff from Midway.
Conclusion:
This is a cracking release from Yakuza with fantastic efforts on both sides of the vinyl. The Original Mix is trance excellence whilst Midway bring in something different - a battle between tech and their own style of gentle, laid back trance.
