Dutch trance imprint Dedicated is back with a release from Morrison called 'Do You Think'. Time to get your vocals out...
:: Morrison - Do You Think :: Dedicated :: DED023
A: Do You Think (Original Mix) The A-side of this record is a little different to what we're used to hearing on Dedicated. This is one of those slow and gentle vocal tracks that progress steadily, focusing intensely on the words and the unfolding story that they're telling. While this won't be everybodys cup of tea, there are some very positive things to be said about this track. The breakdown is very pleasant to listen to - it features some really nice acoustic guitar work which is complemented excellently by smooth synths. After the break, there is a lot of attention paid to a synth melody which is cool and pretty catchy. The guitar stays with us and the vocals taper off as the track begins to wind up.
B: Do You Think (Dub Mix) The Dub Mix of 'Do You Think' would initially make you think that it's going to be exactly the same as the Original Mix, just lacking the vocals. Wrong. Just when you're expecting this to go as before, a new and almost funky bassline comes in and takes over the track. As things progress, you end up with something quite techy, with rhythms stabbed out by techy synths. Aside from the odd vocal snippet and the quiet breakdown, thats's all there is to this mix. Something different and quite unexpected.
Conclusion:
Overall, a good release. On one side you have something typically downbeat and vocal yet it carries some cool little traits which make it enjoyable to listen to. The Dub Mix is worth a listen because it takes the track in a very unexpected techy and funky direction.
