The V-man's latest album has just been released in the United Kingdom, including two exclusive tracks which weren't available on last year's Benelux release. A special vinyl EP with these two tunes is about to hit the shops, so here's our review...
Marco's 'False Light', the opening track of the 200V album, has recently been released with a batch of interesting remixes. If you haven't yet, check out the review right here. The full review of the album can be found here.
A-side: Arpanet (V.ision Remix) It's been quite a while since one of Marco's highly anticipated V.ision remixes, but here he returns with one in that typical sound we all love so much by now. A slick, right-on industrial-like feel is being ignited right from the start, fueled by thumping percussion, subtle bassy interludes and arrays of wickedly created sfx. Layers of thick, infectious tech-synth are being pumped out after a short break, slowly building themselves up to become an instantly recognizable, rapid riff which is to be the main element during the rest of the track. It's being built up and down using a wagonload of tricks, inducing a massive amount of energy to be pumped out continously. This is the perfect example of a powerful V-styled track, filled with that distinct techy use of synths and a constantly pumping percussion. Good stuff!
B-side: The Funk Battery (Extended) This one's totally different than the A-side, but nonetheless amazing in its own particular way. Starting off quite housy with its smoothly progressing percussion, the track gently builds itself up to a big, overly calm breakdown right after the first minute. A very relaxing amount of melodies takes care of the right atmosphere here, accentuated by eerie string parts. You'd think that the tune would just burble along using these elements, but boy will you be wrong! Suddenly, a new introductory melody starts building itself up at the background, smoothed by tiny bits of percussion just to tease you a bit more. What comes after this is totally unexpected, yet so good it will literally blow you out of your shoes. A right-on MASSIVE raw, bass-filled electro-ish riff takes over control, boosting out an astonishing amount of energy with its infectious structure and big party-potential sound. It re-appears again during the rest of the track in multiple instances, each time blazing out that unbelievably phatt main riff. Whether you play house, trance or whatever lies in between, put this one on and you're guaranteed a massive response!
Conclusion:
Just when you thought Marco had put all his best stuff on last year's 200V edition, he comes out with these two tracks. 'Arpanet' is a big techy tune with its infectious riff and typical V-sound, while 'The Funk Battery' combines smooth, housey percussion with a totally unexpected, fantastic main hook. Go get this now!
