The German Dark Noize label brings us the second vinyl of a release by one of our very own writers, Jordi Kramp. Together with Tom Glide, a new package of deep, proggy mixes has been created, supported by the likes of Marco V and Ernesto vs. Bastian...

This is actually Jordi's first release. Tom Glide has done some vocal work before on labels like Little Mountain Recordings. The first disc of 'Sleeper' included the Original Main Extended Dub, Deep Sunglasses Extended Remix and the Original Main Radio Long mixes. This time around, we're being treated with three more mixes, all leaning towards multiple genres...

A-side: Alternative Dub Version
We've got ourselves a superbly funky mixture of house, tech and progressive here. A very full use of percussion, deep, throbbing basslines and some badass effects are being implemented to full effect right at the start, with the overall sound slowly evolving by using a set of moody, darkish vocals and subtly stabbing synth rhythms. Extra emphasis is being put on the vocals somwehere near the middle, with them very deep b-lines grinding forward continously. The minimal amount of eerie synth that's being used totally reminds me of some of Marco V's older work, so that might just be the reason why he's playing it. All in all a very original track with some great basslines and a wicked atmosphere.

B1: Pop Your Extended
At first sight, this interpretation seems a lot more straight-forward than the one on the A-side. A more trancy use of percussion gives the tune its drive, backed by a guitar-ish bassline, smooth acoustic sounding building riffs and a constant use of bits of the vocals. The cool thing here is that this could just as well have been a remix of a track by some famous band: all the guitar riffs sound like they come straight from a good pop-rock track, so I guess the title fits the mix quite well! For the rest, this mix relies on some mini-breaks followed by the constantly changing bassline to create some neat climaxes. This is totally different than the A-side, but I like it!

B2: Deep Dawn Drum Dub Version
This one's again more of the funk and groovy type. With bongo's a plenty during the deep build, a thick percussion and simple yet effective bassline are being injected right into the track's body, together with a synth reminiscent of the one used in the Alternative Dub. Another element that has been taken from the A-side is that utterly deep second bassline. Overall, the structure and sound of this mix can be compared with its predecessor on side A, but then filled up with lots of cool drums and bongo's. If you fancy those, don't forget to check this one out!

Conclusion:
Three very fresh, original sounding mixes are being served on this release. The Alternative Dub and Deep Dawn Drum Dub stand out with their thick basslines and overall funky vibe, while the Pop Your Extended interpretation does things in a more trancy way with its straightforward percussion and bassline. If you like yourself a good amount of variation, don't hesitate to give this one a listen!
