A collaboration between two famous trance producers hailing from Germany has resulted in a full-on vocal track which has already gained plays from Paul van Dyk and DJ Shah. The package contains an original and a dub, so let's have a listen and find out what we're dealing with here.
Alex M.O.R.P.H. has had a great year in 2005 with a massive amount of remixes released for numerous artists. His single 'New Harvest' did very well in the charts and found its way into the recordboxes of many A-list DJ's. Woody van Eyden hasn't been sitting still either last year: his single 'Si-N+R-Je' did quite well with its classically inspired break. Alex and Woody have collaborated earlier on 'Dark Reveal', a proggy, deep tune which was released under the Tribal Jedi feat. WvE moniker. This time, they have teamed up with vocalist Kate Peters to deliver a full-on vocal trancer...
A-side: X-tended Mix Right from the first parts, you'll notice that this is a track that is very reminiscent in sound to a lot of tracks that were released some years ago. The whole structure breathes a very happy, cozy atmosphere, accentuated by a thumpy kickdrum and utterly clear bits of melodic synth oozing catchy rhythms. Unfolding more and more of its melodic capabilities, the track gets to the introduction of Kate Peters' vocals. They're quite subtle, fitting in perfectly with the slightly cheesy, commercial vibe that's so present in this tune. While extending the amount of vocals and its accompanying crispy synth melodies, we slowly near the full breakdown. A bit of Kate's vox are being thrown in again, with some smooth backing sounds gearing up for what is to come. One of the melodies from the build gets the full main riff treatment here, at one point becoming an energetic, high paced and kind of smiling melody. Woody and Alex have created something totally different to what we're used to from them, but I don't know if the majority of people is going to dig this somewhat oldschool trance sound nowadays.
B-side: Instrumental Dub For the one's who weren't too fond of the vocals on the A-side, a Dub version has been included. It's slightly longer than its counterpart and omits most of the vocals, apart from a few occasional chants. For the rest, most of the X-tended Mix's structure has been kept intact; the only notable thing is that the breakdown incorporates a very sunny lil' guitar to make up for the loss of Kate Peters' voice.
Conclusion:
As said, if you we're expecting something along the lines of Alex's or Woody's contemporary high-paced trance sound, you won't find it on this release. We've got ourselves a slightly cheesy feel-good trancer here with not-too-bad vocals. I'm not saying it's bad, but I think this won't really appeal to many of the trance purists out there. A package of remixes by Moonrush, John O'Callaghan and Sassot is coming up in a few weeks, so be on the look-out for the review right here on i:Vibes when the time is right.
