Charted by Micah and signed to Morrison Recordings based out of Canada, this is the initial release from the duo "Space Gypsie." How does it stack up? READ ON!
AFTER
“After” would make a very nice opener for a downtempo set. Combining spacey panned effects, laser kissed synths, and a funky reggae rhythm, “After” is a track that’s hard to pin down to one genre. The laid back melodies and funky drum pattern make the track easy to listen to but at the same time very danceable. Clocking in at around 90 beats per minute, “After” is composed in a unique way that’s not characteristic to most dance music. For the B section, some darker and slightly out of place chords add to the progressive mood of the track which is always changing. As the track winds down, the chords lighten up, giving the track a much happier and lighter feel before finally fading out. Total running time is about five minutes, making this track less than mixable, but still easy to appreciate as an interesting and eclectic piece of music.
I TAKE YOU HIGH
Charted by Micah, “I Take You High” starts off with some spacey effects similar to “After.” At the one minute mark, a beat drops in seemingly out of nowhere, a nice touch that would also make “I Take You High” a good opener for a progressive or even a trance set. The track chugs along, layering tight percussion over some female vocals. The vocals are used sparingly and tastefully, leaving plenty of room for the lush and layered synth lines prevalent throughout the track. “I Take You High” is a great track to sit back and relax to because its many layers keep the listener entertained. At the 3:30 mark, a break is introduces which is used to showcase the synths and vocals. A minute later after a mini-buildup, a nice trancey breakdown interspersed with the occasional vocal drives the track through the next couple of minutes until the second break. After this shorter second break, the track strips down to its basic percussion, leaving plenty of time for the DJ to mix another track in.
Conclusion:
All in all Space Gypsie release a solid EP that is the second release for Morrison Recordings. Pick this up at Beatport or Audiojelly and keep your eyes peeled for this eclectic duo because if this EP is any indication, there is a lot more great music to come!
Also, keep your eyes peeled for the third release on Morrison Recordings, a new Rhythm Code EP.
