Jezper Söderlund aka Airbase brings us a new track under his Ozone guise, which has already been featured on Phynn's In Trance We Trust 11 compilation CD. On the flip is a remix by UK DJ Andy Bagguley...
Jezper is a man of many guises. Using his Ozone alias, he has released a few cool remixes, as well as two single releases, namely 'Ionize' and 'Rock'. Another tune of his, Airbase - 'Escape', was recently released on Intuition Recordings. Next to this, a special remix disc on Discover Digital including an Airbase Remix of O'Callaghan & Kearney's 'Restricted Motion' plus a Parc Remix of Narthexx's 'Bully' recently saw the light of day as well. Out now on Misja Helsloot's First Second label is 'Q'...
A-side: Original Mix Right from the beginning, 'Q' bursts out into a very slick, smooth trancesound, filled with a very catchy bassline, rather typical Jezper percussion and arrays of pure party chords. Up and down going synths backed by this sweeping, smiling melody induce an almost happy vibe to be created, driven onwards by an overall fresh sound. It's good that this one sees it's release during the spring, 'cause its feel definitely corresponds with this time of the year! The break incorporates a neat, infectious lil' melody at first, at all of the sudden evolving into a grand beast of a riff playing a not too complex, yet utterly happy melody which will stick in your head for days. Everything has a rather self-willed sound coming with it, mainly caused by the use of nicely put FX some cool half-broken beats during the breakdowns. We've got ourselves a very cheerful trancer here!
B-side: Andy Bagguley Remix This UK DJ and producer brings us his remix on the flip of the vinyl. Overall, it encompasses a significantly tougher sound, ignited by strong kickdrums and a rapid, boiling bassline at the background. The build itself is of the rather standard caliber, bringing in portions of the original's melodies bit by bit. Andy has kind of removed the party vibe from the original, and instead made a main melody that does correspond with the original one, but in another way it doesn't because it just doesn't really fit in with the overall sound that the producer has chosen for. All this results in a trancer that is just too typical, with its simple percussion and lack of energy. I'm sorry, but this doesn't do it for me.
Conclusion:
While Jezper's original is a very cool piece of elevating party-trance, Andy Bagguley kind of missed the mark with his remix. Anyway, if you're a fan of mister Söderlund's work, definitely give this one a try.
